Prominent former coaches in the poll include Rich Brooks (Oregon and Kentucky ), Joe Novak (Northern Illinois), Sonny Lubick (Colorado State), Herb Deromedi (Central Michigan), Joe Tiller (Wyoming and Purdue) and Jackie Sherrill (Washington State, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M and Michigan State).
