...stands 6'3", weighs 205 pounds, has faster bat speed than Mark McGwire in his prime and runs so fast that he scored on wild pitches six times this season from second base. As a catcher he picks off runners from his knees, and when he pitches, he throws a fastball that has been clocked at 96 mph.
Sounds like a bad Chuck Norris joke.

There aren't very many people that have tape measure home run power like that. I really like his swing because it stays in the strike zone for a long time.

I couldn't tell a whole lot about his defense or anything else much by watching that. He does have a very loose throwing motion.

Cohen and co. need to recruit this guy HARD. We need to get him to commit to us. And I know that you're thinking "What? This guy is never going to set foot on ANY college campus?" But here's the thing- this guy is going to be talked about A LOT in the next few years. Even though there is very little- OK no chance that he will go to college, everytime someone mentions him and the draft guess who else they will mention if he is verbally committed to us? Yep. Mississippi State. It will be along the lines of "Harper is going to be drafted in the first round, but he also has committed to Mississippi State and has the option if he chooses to go that route."

And what will happen? Free recruiting/advertising for the University and the baseball program. There will be some very good players that will think- Mississippi State, huh? Maybe I need to look at their program.

And then who knows? With Boras as his "advisor" (cough, agent) he could very well go to college. Heck, he has made guys go play Idependent League ball to try to get more money. Maybe we get really, really lucky. Who knows?

I know if I was Cohen, I would definately go after him.

They were talking about this kid today on ESPN today and I forget the analyst that said it but...the scouts graded his motion through the zone at 100 on a scale of 1 to 100......which is pretty impressive.....

I do think that he is a little more mature than a lot of kids his age, and sometimes guys like this flame out once everyone catches up to them, but because of his swing, I'm sold. At least as a hitter.
