The Jackets are headed to their first NCAA tournament since 2010. Ga Tech beat Florida State to win the ACC tournament last night. They haven’t lost since mid-February, though they did get a bye in the semifinals due to Virginia’s COVID case.

The senior class includes Jose Alvarado, who has been their point guard since 2017, and ACC player of the year Moses Wright, a no-star recruit who has gone from an overmatched (but getting playing time) backup to a truly transcendent post force as a senior.

Those two guys, of course, were part of the crappy Jackets team that beat NU in 2017, giving us an idea that something might be rotten in Evanston.

It’s nice to think that our failure might be a small part of Tech’s success. Maybe? I don’t know.

It’s nice to see Georgia Tech to evolve and make it to the tournament. It would be nice to see us ascend too. Not sure Collins is the guy to do so. The question is who and will Roper (or Simmons or Barnhizer or someone else) be the gamechanger

Playing Porter Moser’s Loyola team. If Loyola advances against Georgia Tech, they’ll probably play Illinois in round 2. We’ll find out how good of a coach Porter Moser is.

How fortunate for them that their 2020 post-season ban didn't carry into a season that actually has a post-season.

Really throws off my plan to put Ga Tech and Illinois in the national championship game...

Man Louisville and St Louis must be feeling pretty pissed off. Quite clearly only playing 20 games hurt them.

I’ll cheer for GT if they beat LUC.

I believe after that dumb loss in Atlanta in 2017 we beat them at the WR in 2018. Built a big lead and held on to it despite not being able to stop Alvarado

The loss against USU was killer. USU is one of my favorite teams. I thought they were borderline. And ended up not even being last four in

Yep exactly. That was the dagger. Their conference did them no favors. They had to play 7 games in 10 days and jammed in makeup games.

Huh? The 2017 team lost by one on a buzzer beater. In 2018, NU beat them handily. Yes, they let them back in the game, but I was at that one and we were not really threatened. How does any of this have anything to do with GT making the tourney?

I much prefer to root for Loyola as my adopted team. A team of no stars.

None at all. I posted this afternoon, before the matchups were known. Mostly, Wright is quite fun to watch and I hope people know his name. They’ve not been ranked all year.

I was mostly just making a tie to NU, just cuz.

The whole conference was so whacky. The playing consecutive games against an opponent, with one day in between... no home and away games. It was a pretty good conference again that deserved some love. CO State, Boise State and Nevada was pretty good teams.

I am a degenerative gambler, so I rode Wright before his value jumped in a few Daily games.

I have them out in the 1st round against Loyola, if I remember the match up correctly.

Plays in a weak conference.

How is the MVC easy?

Qualifying for the tournament is much harder in the MVC than in the B1G.
-MVC - Usually 1 out of 10 teams qualifies: 10%.
-B1G - at least 7 out of 14: 50%.

You can't just say it's easier to win games in the MVC. You do not recruit the same players that you recruit in the B1G. And you still have fierce competition to get the caliber of players that consider the MVC their place to play. Is your brain so eager to defend Collins that you imagine he'd go to the MVC and recruit Nance or Kopp? you are delusional if you do.

PS-Did you miss the final 4 bit?

Come on now, where do you think Loyola would finish in the Big Ten. Maybe in the bottom third and likely behind NU in most seasons. Let's see there is SIU, Bradley, Valpo, Evansville, Ill. St. Indiana St. Missouri St, UNI, and Drake. Would any of them finish in the top half of the Big Ten? Answer is most likely NO!

Your logic makes zero sense. You are avoiding the point. If Loyola or any other MVC team was in the B1G, their roster would be composed of different players. I think most ppl would agree with that.

Likewise, if NU was in the MVC it would be composed of different players. If IA or IL were in the MVC, do you think Garza/Ayo/Cockburn would still be playing for them?

Weak conference or not, does not make it easier for a coach to qualify for the tournament. And it surely doesn't make it easier to reach a F4.

Well, he's had them in 3 consecutive NCAA Tournaments and went to the Final 4. I'd say he's a pretty good coach.

2 NCAAs in 4 years.

2018 - NCAA (Final Four)
2019 - NIT (lost in first round)
2020 - would have been CBI/CIT if they got a postseason invite
2021 - NCAA (TBA)

Jeeese....gotta defend the Valley a little , its not what it used to be when it was one of the top 3 conferences in the nation...when Oscar Robertson,Larry Bird and Joe Allen roamed the hard wood. but it it is a decent conference still....Usually about 10th nationally...having said that of course it is not the Big10.......but as stated if any of the Valley schools got into the B10 their rosters would go up. B10 school recruits average 3.1 and Valley 2.6.........It has been a hard climb for the Ramblers since the National Title....they missed the boat when TV made college basketball big time....THe Loyola championship was not even televised live!//// anyway as far as the game goes...Georgia Techs best player tested positive for covid..and will not be able to play the weekend....a real shame...he is a senior and would have been his first NCAA

Still rooting for the Ramblers but also still don't think Moser would be a good fit for NU. I do remember that Loyola not being televised live. Think we watched the Illinois H.S. final games.

For what is worth, the MVC is undefeated in the tournament.

Right. I get the impression willycat doesn’t watch much basketball below the P5.

MVC overperforms in this tournament virtually every year - their representative has won its first game 11 of the past 12 times.

Basketball doesn’t have to be “P5” to be “good”. There’s good basketball at other levels.

You guys don’t know he only had one offer since he went to the final four?

Well, one that we know of. And one more than the entire amount of rumors of our coach being courted by other programs. Our basketball coach that is.
