Chicago Catholic League Week I

Welcome back!
Make your predictions -- and since school is back in session, do a bit of homework and predict all the games.

(state rank, nat'l rank)

Blue:
BR (19, 733) @ BR (35, 1166): Enjoy these nicknames before they wimp out and change them. Warriors 24 Crusaders 21.
Marist (120) @ MC (11): Marist avoids BR opener to schedule ... MC? Caravan start a 195 lbs nosetackle. He may be oversized for this game. MC 28 M 7.
Malvern (71, 1938) @ SR (34, 1120): Malvern's tuition is $31,200 - but for that price, they can guarantee you'll get into Harvard ... and so much more. SR 73 Malvern 0.
JC (28) @ PC (2): PC fans are bringing peanut butter and JC fans are bringing jelly for food kitchens. The new victory light will have to wait a week ... PC 28 JC 21.
Marquette (9, 679) @ LA (1, 85): LA returns a bunch of familiar names and debuts new uniforms. LA 29 M 28
Green:
Plainfield Central (328) @ MA (138): Cadets 21 Wildcats 14.
Brad's Bourbon (75) @ DLS (186): News is that D is going co-ed. Isn't gender just a social construct anyway? BB 9 DLS 6.
MS (12) @ Montini (29): Well, let me just check the police blotter here before I make my prediction . . . ok, things look good. MS 12 M 9.
F (25) @ Phillips (23): The Friars travel to Mandrake Park. If you attend the game you'll be on Oakwood, between Pershing and Drexel. The park honors Henry McNeil "Mandrake" Brown a community activist who would whitewash alcoholic beverage billboards in minority neighborhoods, the first of these billboards was located at Oakwood and Pershing. At the intersection of Oakwood and Drexel, is the site of the old Oakland Square Theater, aka, the El Rukn Grand Major Temple, former home of Jeff Fort, a domestic terrorist truly ahead of his time. I think he's in Colorado these days. Phillips 35 F 32
Kelvyn Park (578) @ SF (48): Perhaps the Panthers can say a prayer to Coach Gillespie (KP '44) before the game. SF 42 KP 6.
White:
Senn (478) @ AC (247): W. Clement Stone dropped out of Senn, proving you'll never amount to anything without a high school diploma. AC 42 Senn 0.
B (89) @ SL (223): Wings-n-things looking good. B 28 SL 14.
Ottawa (318) @ Leo (327): Scene: Ottawa's bus, late Friday as it winds down the Dan Ryan. Coach A: "I've never seen a guy that big." Coach B: "I've never seen a guy that big run that fast." Leo 24 Ottawa 18.
Bremen (402) @ SI (261): Just outside the Taylor Street gate of Fornelli Field: Mario's Italian Ice. SI 28 B 21.
ICP (193) @ BMac (134): Coach Zinanni's been coaching for just 7 terms. Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama. BMac 35 ICP 31.
Red:
GT (311) @ Roosevelt (420): Rough day for the Roughriders. Rams 35 Roosevelt 6.
Hales is ranked 218.
EP (448) @ SJ (407): Cameron Meredith (SJ '10) has a good shot of making the Bears roster this year. SJ 14 EP 10.

BR v MI: new coach Bobby Frasor unveils his run and gun offense, BR wins on a 3 pointer at end 59-56.

SR v PA: all i know about the PA school is the guy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer went there. Rita 21-7

LA v Marq: LA 30-0

PC v JC: Just see Warfield winning the game methodically. Could be best game in the series-I will say Celtic 20-17

Marist v St Cyril: MC's 10 year ban on opening Fri night games because of me is over.First opening night game for MC since '04 and reg season game v Marist since '99. Could be a close one just like that one. MC wins high scoring affair.

I see a sweep for the blue with Providence squeaking by JCA mc wins big over Marist

In the green fenwick offense is disrupted by Phillips D and is down big early loses by 10

MCHS wins defense is as advertised fast fast fast
St f wins big
St L loses
Marmion in a low scoring affair.

I think special teams will be important for Montini this year. They no longer have a kicker (Weissenhoffer) who would kick most of his kick-offs into the end zone. The kick-off coverage will be important for Montini especially in week 2 when they go against the team speed of East St. Louis.

Fenwick is more than ready for Phillips. Their depth will be an issue...

I stopped in that neighborhood - remembered the thread and resurrected it.

Doesn’t everyone have a memory like that?

I was stoned when I remembered the Mario’s mention, for the record. And most every other post I’ve read or made.

And hence forth he shall be named the Stoned Crusader!
