China pulls plug on NBA games after Enes tells the truth

This one will be interesting to watch. Prediction: The NBA does anything and everything necessary to placate their Chinese Overlords. Watch for Enes to suddenly, mysteriously, become a marginalized, and then rejected player. After all, its one thing to permit every player in the NBA to loudly criticize America and American leadership. But to use that free speech to criticize a brutal and repressive dictatorship? How rude!

Folks here love to rip the NBA for placating China, but the truth is the NBA is just doing the same thing that most large American corporations (and Hollywood) do. And, of course, the reason is because access to Chinese markets means outrageous money, and you can only get that access with the approval of the Chinese government.

To the extent the NFL, MLB and NHL don’t do it, that’s only because those sports are not popular in China the way basketball is. If they were, they’d be placating just as much as the NBA. Money always drives the boat in American society.

Free speech is free speech. Not just when it is convenient and won't cost you anything. I've never criticized the NBA players (or Kentucky's players) for voicing their opinions. In fact, I've defended that here.

The NBA should do what it did in fully embracing "Black Lives Matters" -- make a loud and public declaration of its support for players like Enes voicing their opinions, and more importantly criticize China for suppressing free speech and trying to bully the league by pulling the plug on the games -- thus proving Enes' point that they are a repressive, dictatorial regime.

It will be interesting to watch alright.... exactly how fast the NBA makes him apologize. Last time some NBA exec said something unfavorable about china, the entire NBA came down on him and he was fired, iirc. Then the NBA profusely apologized.

The only thing that might save kanter is he is an immigrant who routinely talks about human rights concerns in fairly large mediums. Still....I think he's in for a rude awakening as to how things actually work now over here. Nowadays it's Chinese $$$ over everything

The current political leadership of our country, as well as the heads of our largest corporations, are all China’s bitches.

Anyone who argues that is either an otherwise intelligent person who has their head in the sand, or simply an idiot.

Imagine the self esteem issues Xi Dingdongping must have, to pull NBA games because of comments made from a singular, middle-of-the-road, NBA player.

This is the type of behavior of middle age empires and ****. The world has to do something about China. Thankfully, I have to believe their people will wise up over the next few decades. I think that's going to be what does it, internally. Their tech companies are being GUTTED by dingdong, and they aren't happy about it.

The NBA, as well as other entities, are eventually going to be held accountable for their actions. How that happens? I don’t know, but we’re in a post WW2 world where crimes against humanity are going to be brought to light, and anyone associated with them will be viewed, at least historically, as accessories to oppression and murder.

The NBA is about business, not morality. Had it been beneficial to be racist, vs. supporting Black Lives Matter, that’s what they would have done.

Eventually the house of cards is going to come down. Millions of minorities have slaughtered by that regime, and modern slavery exists there today. As soon as we find out more about the connection between certain politicians, big business, and China - a lot of people are going down.

Lebron James will be seen as a racist opportunist within 30 years. I believe it fully. History shows it.

Btw, Kanter’s knack for taking in dictators is admirable. I mean, guy basically had a hit squad looking for him. Still might. Mad respect for him.

But if China wants war with Kanter, China has war with Kentucky.
Speaking of dictators , maybe we should get Kanter to take on Emmert . You know, the guy that didn’t let Enes play college basketball .

Oh yes. He only resigned from his Houston job at the time to "spend more time with his family" just to take another job a few months later.

But I'm sure he wasn't fired at all
So now you’re just making up blatantly false ********?

Here is what actually happened: Morey resigned from the Rockets on November 1, 2020, and the VERY NEXT DAY, on November 2, 2020, it was announced that he’d been hired as the President and GM of the 76ers.

I don’t know why some folks here can’t make their points without dishonestly embellishing the facts. It is true that Morey took a lot of **** for badmouthing China. But it is NOT true that he was fired or suffered real career setback for doing so. He remains one of the League’s highest paid execs now with a title even better than he had before those comments.

I think you’re missing a few points.

There is a special connection of sorts between China and the Rockets, probably more so than any other NBA team. @LineSkiCat14 is a Rockets fan so maybe he can explain this a little better, but I’m fairly sure the Rockets are not the organization you want to be a part of and go to war with China.

Morey was never going to be retained in Houston after his comments.

Just because there’s not always an article, doesn’t mean all the facts are out in the open.

They only hear what their overlords Hannity and Trump put out there. They have no original thinking ability. And, if you put out counter facts, they just say they didn’t happen.

Most conservatives hate Fox News. It’s just that as far as “honesty” from Corporate media, they are they only one that will say things the other networks won’t. There are studies that show Fox will report “truth” more so than CNN or MSNBC.

Some of you are really, really bad at political understandings. Not being mean, but we’re getting to the point where people that don’t have a background in political science need to be more reserved. Politics are just like anything else, if you don’t have an education in it whatsoever, maybe try and tone down your positions.

I’m aware this is too much to ask.

It's all out there. That was the statement when he resigned then immediately took another job.

You can say he wasn't fired if you want, but that isn't the typical resignation

Two words: Yao. Ming. lol

IDK how much weight that holds anymore. I know for a while he was a top jersey sale, specifically because he was from China. Morey.. I really have no idea how much his comments weighed on the decision. I always thought he was a top5, maybe top3 GM in the league. But the results were starting to waiver.

Why do you think Houston moved on? Since you keep up with the Rockets I’m interested to know how much Houston fans think his comments swayed the decision?

Gun to your head - you have to pick a side and wager your house. His comments mattered and were part of him leaving Houston?

You can claim that if you want, but there’s no factual evidence to prove it true.

But here is what the facts DO indicate: Morey simply left to take a better job with a better team. This whole right wing talking point that he was supposedly a martyr sacrificed by the NBA to appease China is disproven by ….well, you know, what actually happened.

Yea and I mean I don’t KNOW anything. I said he wouldn’t be retained after the comments, probably should have said it was my opinion.

But it seems you typically think that if there’s not a google trail, it didn’t happen. Morey was racked by a lot of people there and pretty quickly was no longer with the organization. I suppose it’s possible the timing was just what it was, but….

I just looked around, and apparently the Chinese love the Rockets (Ming) and so yea, it makes sense that he’s no longer with them after the comments. The Rockets probably didn’t want to deal with it. Just an opinion of course, they’re not going to release something like that to the media. It would happen, just like it happened actually.
