you're right, every dog has his day. my braves had over a decade of being dominant. many wins, division titles. 1 world series ring. you could have been the team of the century... but you couldn't get it done when it mattered most, except once. this is a business larry. smoltz is 41. can he still play? sure. at the level he played at 10 years ago? not a snowball's chance. nobody will ever question the heart of an athlete like smoltz. but we can question his body and ability at his age. would i have let smoltz go? no. but even i can see that the end of his career is around the corner. all things end badly, else they wouldn't be ending. for the braves to get back to where they were a decade ago or better, they have to start cutting the dying branches off.
