well, with the way UT usually plays with constant illegal screens on offense and football style defense, I would think it could be justified for most coaches. However, when I've watched Beard's teams at Ole Miss, they play similarly, so he probably doesn't have as much room to complain.

He definitely abuses the old man in the shirt off camera, that’s not the first time he’s put hands on him. I’ve saw his kind before, his wife will catch the brunt of it at home, like before.

Without his one final four, 7 years ago, and without all that allegations against him, can one of his fanboys tell me one thing they like about him?? Do you like his play style and if so, what does he run offensively?? Do you like his team assembly ability?? What exactly makes you want him at UK???? Is the 1 fluke final four 7 years ago enough to make you want him here??? I must be missing something…….

Agree. The vols were very physical and getting most of the calls and noncalls. I think fouls were 27-15. He finally lost it when Ole miss guy got stripped (fouled) and no call, Big time home whistle.

Not surprising... honestly, it's what I hate most now about modern "basketball" and the discussion about being able to "man up" and "play physical"... that usually just means breaking the rules and fouling as much as possible and hoping not to get called for all of them.

The problem is fans complain when refs blow the whistle too much. However, when teams play like this, the game is UGLY to watch.

Beard fans, y'all wanna explain to the class what exactly you like about this prick?
He's 52 yrs old. He's an absolute grinder that worked his way all the way up from a juco head coach. His teams play TOUGH. He took TTU (not exactly a bball school pre-NIL days) to an E8 and a FF. Finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the BigXII with TTU when the BigXII was the best conference in college basketball two of those three years and the second best in the other year. The year he got in trouble at Texas, a year after taking over Shaka Smart's mess of a roster, had that team so ready and so built that Rodney Terry couldn't even screw it up. Let that sink in. If absolutely nothing else, RODNEY FREAKING TERRY couldn't screw up the team Beard built at Texas in one year. He finished T6 in the greatest single conference in the history of college basketball at Ole Miss. In basketball. Soooooo, if nothing else, in the greatest single conference in the history of college basketball he finished in the same spot as our head dork and he did it at Ole Miss. And he actually has a little fire to him as well. Doesn't just stand around and look confused and yell things like "fudge bars" and "gosh dangit". (Cue the "he beats his wife" crowd...that have no clue of the actual story)

Yes, he screwed up at Texas. Yes, he's a really good freaking coach. Yes, he's probably a prick. I'm good with all of those things. I'd rather have that than what we have now.

This is giving his coaching tons of the benefit of the doubt.

He had two good years at TTU, the year they made the elite 8 and the year he made the title game. He caught lightning in a bottle and that made people think he’s some genius. His other three years at TTU he was 18-14, 18-13, and 18-11. The last two coming after his title game appearance when he should have been able to continue that momentum.

His first Texas team was 22-12. The second year they started good at 7-1 before he was fired but hadn’t even gotten to conference play yet. Rodney ended up taking that team to the Elite 8 at Texas and his next year there was only one game worse than Beard’s full season at Texas.

At Ole Miss he’s been 20-12, 24-12, and is only 11-8 this year. Give him flowers for last year if you want I guess, but his other two years have been worse than average and he’s doing no better than Andy Kennedy did there. I would expect a great coach at at SEC program to have it a lot better than this in year 3.

He’s had one great year surrounded by mediocrity. He’s an average coach.

And he made no adjustments playing against us. They took the same shots in the second half that they took in the first. They made them in the first half and missed them in the second half. Same offense we run. Hope we make it. Same defense too. Hope they miss.

Again...2nd, 1st and 3rd when the BigXII was the best conference in basketball two of those years and the second best the other. One of those was an EE and the other a FF. Say what you want about the second year at Texas, but he built that roster and had them primed. Rodney Terry is a joke and that team was so ready he couldn't screw it up. He's struggling this year at Ole Miss, for sure. His career trajectory tells you he won't be struggling for long though.

Surely you are familiar with coach speak. Hard to recruit a player today and tell them he's going to be the 9th man. But honestly, I don't get the Travis Perry thing either. He doesn't really fit their roster.

It wasn’t coach speak. He literally started 10 games this year before Beard realized he’s a complete liability at this level. Beard’s eval of Perry was WAY off.

They are pretty thin at guard, kind of like UK was last season after all the injuries. He was still playing <20 mins/game. But I don't disagree, I think Beard overvalued TP's ability to play at this level.

I think he’s one of the best coaches in the game personally. I wish Mark would do more of what’s going on in that video actually.

Beard hurt his career with his domestic stunt even though it didn’t seem to hurt him other than losing the job at the time. But he’s already done things at ole Miss they’ve never done, so his record speaks for itself. Took Texas tech from an overtime and a few seconds from a national title. Turned around and nearly got back into the final four. Had Ole Miss winning, really never has happened. With the right program the guy, if he doesn’t ruin himself. Would easily hang banners.

Pope will be the coach next year you need to find another team
Buddy...I've lived through the end of Joe B, Eddie, OTS and Clyde. Not to mention the last few of Cal. I can ride out another mediocre season of the current stiff too. This is such an odd concept to some of the sheep, but I can cheer for the team while not accepting the level of coaching they get. Translation for the simple minds out there...I prefer to not stick my head in the sand or drink the kool aid potion made by the weirdos.
