UT is most definitely a good win. Ark is a good win.

Especially with both on the road.

But they were not coaching wins. He was along for the ride.
LMAO sure! Pope had to win TWO challenges to even win that game. You don’t beat EIGHT top 15 teams last year and not know how to coach. What an ignorant statement. Oh, and we are the ONLY team to beat Arkansas on the road and the ONLY team to beat Tennessee on the road.

Guess I just don't like anyone who would abuse his wife, or any Lady period. To me that takes away any good you can say about his coaching. He will never be a Kentucky Wildcat coach. And if so, it might be time to rethink basketball.

I've always been weary of guys who go out of their way to pronounce their disdain for woman-abusers. Kind of goes without saying, right? No one thinks abusing one's wife is okay. I think we're all of high enough intelligence to separate variables into coaching versus personal life. Anyone going over-the-top to point out the obvious flaw may be projecting.

Texas didn't mind pointing out the obvious, you get rid of trash for a reason, so it don't stink up the place.

I just think you're too hung up on this. The lady doth protest too much, methinks. It's not necessary to proclaim your hatred of women-abusers aka "trash". We all hate those types. It is universally accepted, no need to tell us how emphatically you dislike these types. Beard can coach, the two can obviously overlap, but not cancel out abilities.

It's funny to me that once a narrative is set for some people, nothing will change their mind. No matter how many games we win it will just be "Pope was just along for the ride, the players won those games" and no matter how we lose it'll always be Pope's fault.
Pope deserves massive credit for holding this season together. He could have totally folded the way things looked and all the BS injuries he has dealt with.

And also raved about Devin Askew when he brought him to Texas, calling him the "next great college point guard". It's obvious he can coach, but when he had the incident at Texas, they were in the top 10 and they dropped him like a hot potato. His gal pal dropping charges didn't sway them. My guess is that Texas did some digging on their own and didn't like what they found. They fired him with cause, and as far as I know, he never got another penny from them. Good coach, but volatile, and a possible ticking bomb. Hard pass for me.
There were two BOR members that pushed the action on Beard. Obviously the others couldn't "fight" it because that's a PR nightmare. Go look at the BOR members then. I'll let you figure out who the two were that were pushed the firing.

Those names are meaningless to me. I thought this statement from UT@Austin said it all. Texas fired him and didn't flinch or mix words.

More than three weeks after Texas Longhorns head coach Chris Beard was arrested for felony domestic violence, the school fired him with cause on in January with the vice president for legal affairs telling Beard’s lawyer, “Your letter this morning reveals that Mr. Beard does not understand the significance of the behavior he knows he engaged in, or the ensuing events that impair his ability to effectively lead our program. This lack of self-awareness is yet another failure of judgment that makes Mr. Beard unfit to serve as a head coach at our university.”

Beard is a really good coach. He took Ole Miss to the sweet sixteen last season.

Calipari is in the Hall of Fame. He went 9-16 one year with 5 McDonald’s All Americans.
Some times I wonder about how smart people are. I know around 50% of Americans are total idiots.

Ole Miss did their Due Diligence & Beard was hired for exactly the same contract he had at Texas.
Apparently the woman involved changed her story & charges were not pressed after 65 days. But Texas had already fired him & did not honor his contract buyout. Probably best for both sides. Ole Miss comes out the winner because Beard has them winning 20+ games every year. At $5mil + perk$ plus shoe deal$ + radio ad$ - Beard doing Great. $5 million a year goes a looong way in Oxford ,Miss.

I'm in the camp that Pope is not the right guy for the job, but I'm going to agree to disagree here.

Pope made the right adjustments, had his team ready to play in both games, he shut down Acuff, Ament, Thomas and Gillespie. Made them completely inefficient.

It looked to me like Pope pushed every button he needed to push in those games.

He gets the blame for the losses, the least we can do is give him some of the credit for the wins.
Ok. I’m not trying to convince anyone. I know what I see.

It doesn’t bother me if someone disagrees.

I’m probably overly skeptical since I’m out on Pope.

But I see they just missed shots.

If someone thinks we caused them to miss the shots then ok.

A win is a win.

Didn't look at any pics. The pics would be as meaningless as the names. This statement said it all for me, especially the lack of self-awareness part...

Sure. Bury your head in the sand. Live in that world. That statement reflects all of their feelings. Or you can choose to live in the real world. Realize that the BOR at Texas, at the time, had one black man and one woman. The man had an agenda (to get Rodney Terry the job) and the woman was the pawn. The seven white guys couldn’t exactly go public with their support while fighting it. Surely you can see the PR nightmare that would create. I’m confident I have a deeper understanding of this than just about anyone on here. Beard screwed up. He paid. But don’t pretend politics didn’t play a huge role in all of this. The real world isn’t as black and white as you’d like to make it seem.

Lmao you’re a TERRIBLE poster and always have been. I didn’t personally attack you. I said your statement was ignorant and it was. Amazing to me how much you defended Cal, yet call for Pope’s head after every single loss. Pope can coach circles around Calipari.

I'm not sure why you are having a hard time understanding this. I don't know who any of the BOR are, so their pictures are meaningless to me. All I know is that Texas fired Beard without hesitation and mentioned his "lack of self-awareness" in regard to the trouble he was in. Actions have consequences. I'm a big believer in people being held accountable. Beard was fired because of his off the floor behavior, and apparently in part for his lack of understanding why he was in trouble. If Beard is that dumb to not understand that, or if he didn't care, then Texas ABSOLUTELY made the correct call.
