This one will be revisited when we have a new HC. If you're Chris Henry Jr., why would you commit to WVU when you don't know who your coach would be? Heck, it might be Brian Hartline, OSU's receivers coach/OC for all we know.

Can Hartline run a program or can he recruit without the OSU brand? Somebody is going to pay to find out in the next couple of years.

While it is true that Brown is a liability to recruiting by his poor track record and looming threat of recruits having to possibly suffer a coaching change. That isn't the only reason. Before the transfer portal, a player would have to worry about committing to a blue blood program and possibly not ever making the 2 deep roster. Sure they could transfer, but at cost of an eligibility year making it a one time option for the most part. Now, why not go to a blue blood program where after 2 years you either prove to be good enough or the writing is on the wall and you know you can then transfer without issue to WVU?

So I could see it just as easily being a play where he feels as though a home at WVU is always available to fall back on if he doesn't become a recognizable name for a program like Ohio State.
