I've read where Chris is now at 310 lbs. Should he play inside? I'm beginning to think his future is at DT. It'd be nice if he can stay around 270-280 but with his frame I just don't see it. Your thoughts!!!

He enrolled what, a week or two ago? And he was supposedly 295 or so when he enrolled. No way he's put on 15 lbs that fast. AND, once Balis gets a hold of him, he will be down around 275-280....which just so happens to be around what Jadeveon Clowney plays at. No way will he be a DT with that speed in my opinion.

No chance unless he loses speed along with the weight gain.

He's over 300 lbs, that's certain. Rather he's 305 or 310, doesn't mean much to me. The kid is tall, he can carry 300lbs no problem and still be a pretty lean guy. My concern isn't 2013 though, it's 2014 and on. I have to think he's headed for 320+ lbs one day (Much like Keemdichie), and yes, he'll most likely end up inside.

Balis is already ahold of him... If he's going to continue gaining weight, he's going to end up like Fletcher Cox... Actually, he's prettymuch already there. Cox was a 6'4 240lb DE in highschool that ran 4.46 40 @ BDC and just blew up when he got to State. Obviously, that process started prior to getting to MSU for Chris Jones.

Wouldn't his height work against him inside? I would think he'd lose some leverage being 6'7" inside

Don't know about Jones, but there was a picture of the Nkemdiche bros after a workout with their shirts off recently (cue the Yancy comments). They both had sixpacks. Robert played end a UAA at 280 lbs. He won't move inside except maybe passing downs. He's a prototype NFL D-end

Yeah, he'd be going against 6'2" to 6'5" guys inside. They'd get under him too easily unless he has an unbelievably low stance for a tall guy.

He'll be 280 by September.

Cool story bro.

Maybe you should have stopped with the bolded part since that's what the thread is about.

If he doesn't red-shirt, he'll be at DE this season. After an off-season workout program and reps at DT and DE, he'll know what what he can do. I don't see him playing under 300 lbs., and with the current personnel, a move to DT seems probable at some point in the future.

I still say he's over 300 lbs next year. You're acting like he's Clowney, but I think both guys will carry much more weight on their frames than Clowney does.

I'm not acting like he's anyone; but Clowney is who the folks that got to watch them both compared him to...so I guess you could say that they were acting like he's Clowney. Herm Edwards compared him more to Julius Peppers. I like that comparison more

I didn't watch Peppers in HS, so I can't comment. Clowney was 230 in HS, RNK and CJ were both 280+. They're going to grow from there. I think Jones ends up playing at a heavier weight than RNK. There just aren't that many DEs in the SEC at 6'5, 300+ lbs. The heaviest DE on LSU's team right now is 255.

If his weight hampers him playing DE, he will drop some.

At his height, frame, and athleticism, his best shot at a paycheck is DE. If he has a decent work ethic, anything that keeps him from excelling at that position will be addressed.

Or offensive tackle if he keeps gaining weight. Doubt it happens, but there's worse things than a super athletic left tackle

we need to keep him trim. cj is a waste at dt. we need to find somebody that can get some pressure from the outside consistently. if we were smart, we dont let him eat his way into an elite dt, we keep him trim and make him a game-changing de. he has the potential to be all sec at both, but all american at de.

By the end of September he'll be down to 275 max, IMO

He'll shed a lot of weight now that he's on campus and working out, plus the intensity of an SEC practice when August rolls around. He hasn't been through anything like what he's about to get involved in. By the end of his career at State he'll be 300lbs minimum. Nothing wrong with a 300 lb defensive end as long as he's athletic and can rush the passer, although he likely will be moved inside. I think he'll be able to play both. Fletcher Cox could have.

God, you're terrible..

I realize you're an ELITE DAWG now but how about not being a jerk to everyone that isn't a State fan? I realize that for someone like you that's going to be hard but can you try, dick? The guy didn't say anything bad about State. He was contributing to the conversation.

The fact that people like you and Goat trash Sixpack and then come over here when Gene34's board is dead is pretty hypocritical. And yes, I am completely calling you out. You're a terrible poster.

The official check in weight was 309

And they are not concerned. He may play
DE at that weight but will probably lose weight over the next month.
he is ready to go.

Its 2014 and 2015 that are the question marks. I'm thrilled about the kids future, I don't care where he plays

I heard back during the regional at Starkville that he was at 306 and ran a 4.7

at that weight.

I don't see the concern, either, unless he just lost all of his explosiveness with the weight gain. Heck... if he can keep same speed and add the weight, that makes him even more terrifying.

The concern about him playing DT is his height. Obviously if he can be as effective as Suh or Cox, then he wouldn't be a waste at DT....but its harder to get the leverage needed to be dominant at DT when you are that tall.

Dorsett Davis was pretty tall and effective at dt, but cj is even taller than him. If he could play dt well, it would be really hard to throw over him

Haha. I don't trash SPS AT ALL, but good try. It kills me how if someone posts on EliteDawgs they must hate SPS.

And it is quite embarrassing for you to still be *** hurt by me making you look like the douche you are months ago. Get over it, grow up, get some thicker skin, and clean the Sand out of your ***. And for the love of God, don't ever lump me in with Goat on anything.

By the way, is it better to be a poster on EliteDawgs, or to be the guy that reads EliteDawgs constantly but tries to call EliteDawgs posters out over here? What a total loser you are. You just admitted to spending your time on MULTIPLE MSU boards daily instead of just one...nice job moron.

And as Engie said, as soon as you contribute ANYTHING to a discussion on this board, maybe you should keep quiet. You want so desperately to be relevant, yet you add nothing at all to this board.

If that's true, he's the best pure athlete in the SEC. That would be "sit him out til the NFL draft" type stats
