The last time the Rebels won eight or more games in back-to-back seasons was 1989 and 1990.

The last time they won nine or more games in back-to-back seasons was 1961 and 1962.

The last time they won an SEC championship was 1963.

The last time they beat chief rivals Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State all in the same season was ... never.

Only three times since the SEC expanded and split into two divisions in 1992 have the Rebels finished with a winning conference record.

They're the only team in the Western Division that has not played in the SEC championship game.

When they lose to S.Carolina on Thursday night with everyone watching it will very wonderful.

That's like saying, in roulette, it's hit red 50 times in a row, the next time will definitely be black.

The upcoming season is independent of their past let downs and failures. They may in fact fall flat on their faces, but it's not going to have anything to do with the last time they had back to back 9+ win seasons or bs like that. It'll be because Snead blows out a knee or the Oline doesn't gel until November.

In 2001 UM beat Bama and LSU but lost to MSU.
In 1968 UM beat Bama and LSU but tied MSU.

In 1986, 1962, 1956, 1955, 1954, 1952, 1948, 1947, 1938, 1927, and 1906 they beat LSU and MSU but didn't play Bama. And another note along the line of UM avoiding Bama: UM didn't play Bama in the regular season in any of UM's 6 SEC Championship Seasons.

In 1910 UM beat Bama and MSU but didn't play LSU. However, in 1910 they played "Memphis High" once and "Tennessee Medical" twice. Kinda like their schedule this year.

Man, you are the king of "Yeah but State sucks too." DULY F'N NOTED. Everybody in the college football playing world remains us every year. We know. Excuse us(State fans) if we take pleasure on occassion in the shortcomings of the confederacy.

also, in 1941, en route to winning a national championship, we beat bama and um and tied lsu 0-0. in 57, we beat bama and lsu and tied um.

when you are sucking hind tit. I am all for making fun of them when we are doing well because then we have a leg to stand on. It's just stupid to talk **** when they are preseason top 10 and we are hoping to break .500.

To each their own though.

Even though I was only 6 months old, I knew we only lost to Florida and USM in 1980.

Well, and the *** whipping to Nebraska in the Bowl.

They wanted us to give them a similar deal to what we did with LSU where we played in Baton Rouge almost every year and split the gate. When we were winning our SEC titles, we were almost always playing LSU, one of the top teams in the country, on the road.

Matters little though. All of that was another era of football. The only thing that really matters to me is where we've been the last 10-15 years and where we can go from there.

I won't try to make fun of 2009 version, but it's open season on Ole Miss' football history, especially 70's through Ed Orgeron.

that the majority of the years that we beat LSU and MSU (I have no idea how many times it has happened) would have happened in years we did not even play Bama.

Even then, if you just take the post-Vaught era, we've been to 11 bowl games, 2 of which were New Year's Day Bowls. In that time, MSU has been to 10 bowl games and 1 NYD Bowl. Not a whole lot to brag about when your history isn't really any better.

Wasn't any "us" to it. Hell, a national sports columnist pointed it out. One guy in the thread says he did not realize that. That is making fun? embarrassing? The O.M.A.H.A. posters on ESPN is embarrassing. The "O" no the coach tshirts are embarrassing. Pointing out OM hasn't beaten Bama, LSU, and State in the same year EVER is not.

But while we are on the subject........it isn't like State fans are talking smack to USC or Florida. It is OM. While they have a few more wins and bowls and etc. It ain't like there is a huge amount of difference.

I didn't think much of the "O No The Coach" shirts, but the O.M.A.H.A. sign and references on the internet (by more than just MSU fans) is hilarious!

the <17> I want, State fan or not. I was unaware this was caste system where only Florida and USC fans could talk trash. If Ole Miss wins 7-8 games*, while MSU wins say 5 games, you better believe I'm going to talk ****.

*I'm not predicting that, I'm just giving an example where OM fails to live up to expectations and State exceeds them, giving fans a positive outlook on the future.

.....greatness and Nutt's popularity when he was at Arkansas. You know, I know it, we all know it. I don't ever recall a team with no real prestige, coming off several losing seasons in a row and then having a breakout season, getting a top 10 pre-season ranking the following year. It just doesn't happen. It certainly never happened for MSU in the past. I'm frankly stunned and amazed at such hype over a team with so little recent success. But hey, you gotta hand it to Ole Miss. They've always been the best program in this state at drumming up hype. Hype, however, does not necessarily(and rarely does) translate to reality. At least it rarely does for Mississippi teams. One bad injury can take take down any program in this stage in a heartbeat, and that's because the biggest difference between us and the top teams in this league is depth. Always has been, always will be. Anyone who denies this is kidding themselves.

If Ole Miss does live up to the hype, good for them. If they get to Atlanta and lose, then all they've really done is pull even with MSU's accomplishments in football in the last 20 years. If they get there and win, however, then I feel bad for Dan Mullen. He will have taken a job at a dead-end program at the worst time possible, when Ole Miss hires a proven winner, wins a championship, steals the headlines, and makes it painful for MSU fans to show their faces at work. We'll all go on living, but I don't know why we'd bother as fans anymore. That's why I don't think there's any way Ole Miss will win a damn thing this year........except for a nice bowl game.

The Rebels are very due based on these historical facts. I don't see a national championship but 10-2 is very possible and I'd say it should be disappointing if they only win 8 regulars season games (barring injury to Snead). Win the right games at 10-2 and they play in Atlanta. I'm hoping for the loss to S.Carolina.

Bear Bryant built his legacy on the backs of teams like Ole Miss, State, and the other schools he refused to play at their home stadiums. Not only did this allow him to pad his record, but it also put Ole Miss and State years behind financially. It also affected the towns of Oxford and Starkville since the towns were deprived of the normal economic impact generated by home FB games.

Bryant got away with tilting the playing field in his favor for decades by doing things like this. The SEC, as it is now, still shows the effects of him (and others like him) running the conference rather than the conference officers doing their jobs to strengthen the conference as a whole.
