This has kinda been the trend the last couple of years, and in all honesty I think the SEC is gonna be a little down.

We'll have Florida and Bama at the top, but I dont think there is another National Championship caliber team below those 2.

And I agree 5-9 are a guess.

Ole Miss has some favorable east opponents (and MSU at Oxford), so I think they'll end up with a decent SEC record, but I think they'll be separation between the top 8 teams and Ole Miss at 9th. Until LSU proves otherwise, I think 4-7 are a guess (with MSU being 8th). I really could see MSU slipping anywhere in the 4-8 range, but I'm assuming 8th until we prove that we can manage without AD and Relf proves he can be effective for a whole game not played against a Tyrone Nix D.

we have Jawja and Auburn at home, which is a definite advantage for us...thus negating any slight advantage they have over us in talent or depth...plus I also think the earlier you play against Cam Newton, the better. It is going to be an adjustment for him to play against SEC defenses again

I agree with the premise on teams 5-9, but I'd add Team 4 as well. LSU may have more talent than most of those teams, but Miles will keep them middle of the pack.

Last year it was teams 3-11 that were a crapshoot on any given Saturday. I think Arkansas's defense may be enough of a liability to draw them back to the pack some as well, and you could see a similar free for all with a lot of 6-6 to 8-4 teams. 7-5 was the magic number last year, with 6 teams at 7-5. I think you'll see a lot around that mark again. UT is a real question mark to me. I keep thinking they'll be awful, and they should be, but they are still UT.

I don't have a lot of faith that we'll do a whole lot, but I expect us to find our way to the 6-6/7-5 mark and end up in the logjam of teams fighting for everything from the Peach to PapaJohns.com.

as a former QB...

Do you agree that it's better for us to play against Newton and Auburn early before he has had more games under his belt to get adjusted? Or can this be a bad thing because it's early and Gus may have some tricks in his bag we haven't seen?

"But I don’t think there is no way in hell that the talent level overall, top to bottom, on the two-deep depth chart will approach what Nutt has had the past two seasons."

Rebuilding with youth this year.

publicly called out his qb? When doesn't Spurrier do that? They have been picking up blue chip play makers and have an improved oline. I would put them second in the east. I wouldn't rate Ark that high until their defense proves something and Bobby Petrino saying they are improved is not enough for me. I actually expect State to have an overall better team than OM but he may be right in that we have a better schedule and get you at home so....

The simple fact is, he's nowhere near the coach he once was. 20 years ago he was 10 years ahead of his time. Now, he's 10 years behind it. USC will be what they always are under Spurrier. About 3-5.

I would rather play them later in the season and part of the reason is what you said. You'd have more film of him. You'd have a better ideahow they're using him. Also, with the way they'll use him (I think) as the season progresses he'll get more, and more banged up.

But, in reality, it can go either way. It will be a tough, tough atmosphere to play in for Cam when they come in on that Thursday night. That'll be his first road SEC test. With it early in the season, like you said, they could still very well be working out some bugs, i.e. snap count, communication at the LOS, personel packages.

So I would rather play them later, but as far advantage/disadvantage I think its 50/50. </p>

I'll correct that for you. His recruiting base is nowhere near what it once was. I do think his offense was better suited a few years back as well, but the ultimate difference between South Carolina Spurrier and Florida Spurrier is South Carolina and Florida. South Carolina, as a state, produces about what Mississippi produces in terms of talent, in other words, not enough.

Florida's program was a sleeping giant, in the way that FSU's and Miami's were, though FSU and Miami have gone back to taking a nap briefly.

South Carolina's program is crap too. Prior to Lou Holtz's arrival, South Carolina's history was a lot like MSU's football history pre-Sherrill. I still believe SC hasn't had a 10 win season in the history of its program.
