Chris Petersen at Boise State: Is his stock finally falling?

I was watching the Boise State @ BYU game last night, and figured it would be a pretty close game between two perennial mid-major BCS threateners, but it looked like a mismatch in BYU's favor. Boise State already has 3 losses this season, which is rare for Chris Petersen, who at one time was rumored to be our next head coach before we hired Mullen. Earlier this year, Chris Petersen's winning percentage was crazy high at 89%, but it looks like he may lose a few of those points before seasons end. Do you think his stock is finally starting to fall, or do you think this is just a low talent year for Boise State. I have always admired Chris Petersen's ability to have his team prepared for the big games when they get an opportunity to play them, but it seems Boise State may be slipping out of its perennial BCS buster role.

Yes, I'd have to think that his stock is really dropping now -- just in time for OM to get Boise in the Chick Fil-A kickoff classic next year -- and has been slowly declining since the late-season loss to Nevada in 2010.

Having good coaches at Washington, Washington State, UCLA, and Stanford(new pac12 tv deal) isn't doing him any favors either. Doesn't seem to be getting the underrated excess talent over there that he once was.

It may be. This may be a perfect example of how a man can simply get burned out and no longer have the fire in the belly. He apparently decided to stay there when he plenty of opportunities to move up. It may have finally passed him and he needs to .... or get off the pot. He may be a prime example of a guy who is too comfortable with no pressure in an isolated situation.

Definitely. Two years ago, people would have emptied their bank accounts for him. Now, I don't think he gets a serious look from any of the big boy jobs.

When you are at Boise State, I think you have to expect some ups and downs because you can't reload like Alabama. He's had the benefit of some great QB's. But when I watched them the other day, the guy that was playing looked pretty average.

Patterson has proven he can coach, although its hard to expect him to match that run. He had the program way over its head.

I think he is pretty comfortable at Boise State, and likes the control he has been given over so many aspects of the program. I read an interview a little while back where he equated a new coaching job to more headaches, just in a different location. He also said he hoped to retire within the next decade. Boise State is a pretty unique program for sure: Arguably a top 10 program nation wide, but lots of isolation from the media and all the other evils other top programs struggle with. He's making plenty of money, gets enough talent to win a share of the conference they're in every year, and seems to love what he's doing. Not to mention, they usually get a shot at an undefeated season, and a BCS bowl every 3 to 5 years. When's the last time Nebraska has won, or even been to a BCS bowl? Shoot I can't blame him for staying.
