Chris Relf as the MSU all-time TD pass leader?

The record is 38. He needs 20 more to tie Derrick Taite.

It will be tough, but it's also possible. 20 TD passes would also be a school single season record, breaking the school record of 16.

He could really rack up on Memphis and UT-Martin if Dan does the same thing as he did against Alcorn where Relf passes, but is allowed to run very sparingly.

It's something to watch for next year, and something that I hope he accomplishes.

He didn't really start throwing competently until Arkansas which is probably the best defense he played against with serviceable numbers passing wise and he didn't even throw a TD pass. I'm still thinking about LSU's and Bama's defenses and I'm just not sure if he can be confident in that possibility.

Did not expect a first year JC player to come in and break our TD rushing record.
Things are no longer the norm for this team, and this coaching staff.

I would not bet much against Relf breaking this record.

Yes, but prior to Arkansas, the only pass Relf was allowed to throw was the occasional square in or slant, bubble screen, and one WR route play action deep passes. Those last 3 games, the playcalling was completely different. Outs, posts, slants, check downs to the backs, called RB screens. If that carries over to next season, and there's no reason to think it won't since we have a HC that knows what he's doing, he can at least make a run at it. We are still going to be a running team in the redzone, but as we saw with the TD pass to Arceto, you still have to pass inside the 5 at times.

It needs to be noted Relf's last three games were against TERRIBLE defenses. It kind of reminds me of the Russell love fest after the Memphis game. It kind of reminds me of Bray from Tennessee. He played a bunch of pushovers and people anointed him the next Peyton, but against a decent D he throws three picks. I hope Relf continues to improve, he threw some big time throws Saturday, and goes for 20 and 10 next year but I'll reserve my judgement until the Auburn game.

Yea I'm confident that the play calling will open up a bit more too, but man... 20 is a lot of TD's. I mean man... it took up to the Georgia game for Cam to have over 20 TD's. That should even be considered when they've had over 5 games with over 50 points before the Georgia game and 2 of those were in the 60's. Also, they only had 1 game under 20 points this whole season. That's just an amazing feat that I have a hard time seeing Relf make even with the coaching.

20 TD passes is just slightly above average. There were 45 QBs that threw 20 or more this season. It's a lot to expect for an MSU QB, however if he gets the majority of the snaps next year it is within reach. I think yardage is just as important though. To take that next step and be a balanced offense, we need 2500-2800 yards passing. If we get that and 18 or more TDs then our offense could be outstanding.

Edit to add some numbers for comparison:

Wesley Carroll threw for 2300 yards and 16 TDs and from what I saw in the bowl game could barely launch it 10 yards downfield.
Tyler Bray ended up with 1800 yards and 18 TDs and didn't become the starter til around midseason.

And it is possible. But man... it's just hard for me to wrap that around my mind. To be honest though, thinking a little more on it, the defenses in the league has been somewhat down. There hasn't really just been a dominant defense this year. The closest to it was LSU, and they would dominate in certain games. The best I can say about them is that they were consistently good. Next season, the main teams with defenses that will give us trouble is LSU's, Bama's, South Carolina (Ellis needs to get their passing defense better), and maybe Georgia's. I'm not so sure about Georgia since it's kind of hard to tell what they're going to be about in the future. Everybody else doesn't really scare me on the defensive side. But man... I just can't help but wonder if Relf will be able to keep this up. I have faith that he will but I just have this nagging feeling in the back of my head.

there is no way I would bet against him and Dan on that issue no matter how unlikely it is ... especially when Bumphis comes back and the other players improve or get replaced by better talent ... the one thing standing in the way is the fact that Dan likes his QB to run as well as pass which is considered the safer play in the red zone...but that leaves only 10 per year so it is possible to do being only a 3 year starter

If Relf is able to approach the record withsparse production from his first two seasons, then our next 3-year starter at quarterback under Mullen will easilybreak nearly all of MSU's career passing records. Favre or Prescott could do it, and even Russell couldif he has very productive Junior and Senior seasons.</p>
