Pitched 8 solid innings of shutout baseball yesterday in the Cape Cod League. His ERA for the summer is 1.74. And more encouraging to me is his strikeout to IP ratio indicates that he is pitching to contact more.
I feel like his problem(s) last year were two fold- 1. He tried to strike everyone out and it caused him to run his pitch count up and be too fine. 2. He was still learning how to refine a couple of pitches and he didn't have complete control of them quite yet. That only comes with time.
I think he will take a big step forward next year.
It also looks like Daryl Norris will change his batting stance a little bit next year- for the better. He had a wide open stance and to me it took away from his power. Hopefully by closing it up a little bit, it will help him get to the ball a little bit more quickly because he won't have to close up as much to get in a good hitting position and it will save him some time. There is no reason why he can't hit 10 home runs for us by the time he is a junior.
Just a couple of things to watch for next year.
