Lets be honest,both parties want cheap labor. The fact of the matter is that both parties just want people who will do the work. Certain segments of our population will not do the work that these immigrants do. Why do that hard manual labor when you can collect welfare,unemployment monies, get free food and free medical care. If any of you have ever lived in a town of 100 or more, you would know what I'm talking about. I listened to a guy from Huntington recently who said he paid a higher wage to immigrants because they worked hard, were reliable and showed up for work everyday on time and were drug free.
Yup. I see Mexicans and Guatemalan's making 10 bucks an hour every day for grunt work, and are happy to get it, while Joe Blow would rather collect welfare than take the same job. Then he'll complain, "Those damned immigrants are taking our jobs!"
BTW, if you get a chance read Matthew's book "Hardball". It was written when he was still working for Tip O'Neil, circa '88.
