But WTF was he thinking on the fumble? That's the second time in 3 weeks a defensive player has tried to lateral the ball after he got a turnover. Manny needs to tell them the next guy to try that **** is going to run sprints on the sidelines right then in front of everybody.</p>
Back during the summer during the open practices, I saw them practicing defensive drills where Manny would throw the ball on the ground, they would scramble to pick it up, then try to pitch it to the open man while running to the end zone.
I think it was Mullen's idea because, on both occasions that we've done it, I watched for Mullen's reaction on the sideline afterward (expecting him to give Diaz an earful) and he just looks like he's just bummed that we didn't score.
I'm not sure I agree with this philosophy, though if the defense really catches on and are always expecting to score this way, i think they might become successful in doing it. They are, after all, moving the ball this way against a unit that is not used to having to tackle and defend. The key is having our defenders always prepared to receive the lateral. Kind of like practicing the option pitch drills until you're blue in the face.
Oh, and Channing Crowder can eat a dick.
