Depends on if we decide to counter offer the last minute. I don’t want a kid who only wants money, but if they actually play and help us win games then pay them if they can star.

USC is a horrible choice since they are Living on welfare with their NIL . If he goes there winning is not a factor to him
Winning is not a factor to the majority of these kids, but our fans cant see that. Winning is a bonus, the plan is 1-most NIL for the year they have to spend in college, followed by most fun/brand boosting. If you can make the same amount of money, be the same campus hero... would you rather spend it that 9 months in southern cal or lexington, KY? People need to get on board with times have changed - this isn't as simple as pOpE cAnT rEcRuIt

Collins isn’t close to most of the freshman superstars this season. He will maybe average 7-8 a game next season. While that’s still good for freshman, he’s just not there yet. Going to be really good in a few years though. Just my opinion.

I wish we could land kids that want to get paid and win like Duke, UCONN, Michigan State, Kansas, Houston and Arizona. I suppose they’re lucky or fortunate to be an outlier of the times. We should just concede to being second tier moving forward.

Yes its odd that the schools you referenced are able to get the top guys and still win. All the kids on those teams sure act and play like they want to win.

For some reason we cant land any of those guys.

Yeah it’s bad if a recruit would rather play basketball at USC than Kentucky. Then again, that is some nice weather and scenery. I don’t think winning is a priority for some of these guys

I want kids who know what it means to put on the Kentucky jersey and the history that goes with it. I want kids who would pay the university to play here. Guys like Trent and Collin who would probably play for room, board, tuition and books.

I would like to know how they keep a lot of them multiple years as well- but to your point, I agree we don't need to concede and I think there is real merit to Pope had to build a base before he could go all out on say 1 dude. Kind of like what Stein mentioned, this person wanted said amount but I need to have multiple people in multiple areas so for this class, he went with 3 for the price of 1 - sorta like that. I for one do not think these stud freshmen are as impactful as most think UNLESS, they have a good cast around them.... I mean.... we have proven that as a program I think

You’re invisible and anonymous. Takes 30 seconds to make a username my friend. I’m sure someone would help you if you ask. Saying that, as for Collins, he’s not in the same league and Stokes, Smith and a few others in that class. He’s definitely not top 30 of the freshman class this season. He is a good player but has a way to go to be compared to Ament and those guys. He may surprise me but I don’t see it.

Mark Pope needs to figure out his recruiting or he's not going to last here. Simple as. He's did a good job at turning around this disaster of a year. But, he has no reinforcements coming in. Donors have to be asking, what was that 22 million for? I'd love to see what Pope could do with a Caleb Wilson, or a Darryn Peterson, Koa Peat.

I remember when we were looking at locking him down that he was good but not "elite" and now not getting him causes people to panic.
I think it probably has more to do with the fact that none of the elites are coming here either.
When Plan A fails you go to Plan B.
Is there a Plan C, because Plan B is starting to look sketchy

It's not like there's not precident here.
UK has never been a big player in So Cal recruiting under any coach.
The other aspect to the Collins recruitment is how many current players does Pope want to bring back?
If you bring back Mo, Jelly, Kam, and Hawthorne there is a logjam at the four.
Collins is not like Stokes where he would immediately be the best player on the team.

Thanks for the update OP, but anyone who follows recruiting knew that ship had sailed once the early signing period came and went.

There you go throwing a monkey wrench into someone’s gaslighting argument with facts and logic again!

Sshh… Some fans don’t want to face reality that the teams you just listed (and a few others) have separated themselves from UK since Pope’s recruiting arrived! They want to change UK over to a participation trophy program, similar to what has happened in Little League Baseball, and Pop Warner Football.

I don't believe that there are fans who want UK to be a participation trophy program. They just don't see the need to go into full panic mode until the whole thing plays out. Returning players, portal transfers, high school recruiting...there is a lot that is to happen before next years team is assembled.

But there are some who cannot be patient and panic with every high school recruit that signs elsewhere. Even if UK was not recruiting them/or in the running.

Pope can't recruit is a big part of the problem.

I would put the “scenery” in Lexington, especially a Saturday at Keeneland, up against the “scenery” anywhere in the world. 😉😉. We might be talking about different scenery, but that’s ok! Weather on the other hand… I mean, if you like to experience all three in a week?

Gay love triangle aside, let's not act like Musselman is chopped liver as a coach. He's got Gilbert Arenas' kid playing at a high level and sells players on getting NBA ready.
I think that is a factor that largely goes overlooked. He was tearing it up in Fayetteville for a few years. Give him the allure of Los Angeles and it's an added bonus.
