Got my first "good" sip of the season this weekend. Knew nothing about this stuff but it was a great sipping bourbon. It's barrel proof high, so a little goes along way. Really surprised by it.

My niece and her husband gave me a signed bottle of batch 1 earlier this year and I agree, it is great for sipping.
As we prepare to enter the gates of Christmas hell, I broke the seal on a bottle of Old Elk about an hour ago to help ease the pain and suffering that coming over the next 48 hours.
Interesting. Did a pub crawl this past weekend on the coast. It must’ve have been in every bar I was at. And different versions at multiple locations, as well

About a month ago I woke up and realized that I hadn’t had a drink in a couple of weeks so I got the stupid idea to stay sober for the remainder of the year. People are starting to get entirely too peopley right now. I’m not going to make it to 2025.
I would definitely save Batch 1 just in case. Their stuff is excellent, albeit a bit pricey at ~$110ish.
For anyone not aware, KLUKE is a blended whiskey made by Jonathan Maisano of Ocean Springs, MS. He's been one of the most prominent barrel pickers in recent years, I've been told his store did "more barrel picks than anyone in the country", and he is pretty renowned in whiskey circles for his excellent palate and knowledge. He sold his store about a year ago I think. He started this brand a couple years ago (named after his kids iirc) and it's excellent stuff.
Correct. Buddy of mine teaches/coaches down that way. First summer down there, he worked at the store just to give him something to do. He doesn’t own the store anymore, but I think it still has the same name. But yeah, he does a ton of barrel picks, or used to anyway.
Got a signed bottle too and a tshirt (must've been free in you know my buddy)
I got a bottle of Big Stick a few months ago and it's my favorite new bourbon. It's from central texas from a military family, and the label has tributes to all 5 branches, and has a charred piece of wood in the middle. Check it out if you find it, the owner seemed like a genuinely good dude.
What do you have against unblended gay bourbon whiskies?
I generally don't drink blended whisky much. I normally prefer a straight high rye.
This evening me and MS NT get home from running around. I sit down in the the living room and I hear her in the kitchen mixing a drink. Not sure what she is mixing but I assume she is making a martini because she bought some vermouth while we were out. Next thing I know she brings me a drink and it’s not a martini.

Ms NT: the Sagamore 9 year.
me: oh my

Me: I do like it. I just wouldn’t used it in a mixed drink. But I’m sure it’s delicious
btw Sagamore 9 year isn’t an expensive bottle but pretty hard to find. I got it while traveling in Maryland. Not sure what state around here has it. When I asked what rye I was scared to death she had used the Michters 10 year rye. So it could have been worse.
Today while we were out I did find a Stagg and a Blantons straight from the barrel.

We have our usual Makers Mark and eggnog. We usually wait until New Year's to get some special to drink.
I feel like y'all are intentionally avoiding Wild Turkey 101, just because it's less expensive, more available and almost certainly better than all these Johnny Come Latelys.
