Hard to argue, but the top 10 reveals something concerning.

Back Yard Burger, Meridian
Cafe' Galleria, Collins
Christy's, Columbus/Starkville
Country Food Shack, Raymond
Dixie's Kozy Kitchen, North Carrollton
Hamburger Harold's, Corinth
Hamburger House, Mize
Lau-Tori's Fine Foods, Sumrall
Mugshots Grill & Bar, Starkville/Jackson/Hattiesburg
The Blue Rooster, Flora

Are they talking about the chain restaurant or is there a local place in Meridian that I am not aware of.

I've had Christy's, Hamburger House, Blue Rooster and Mugshots. All four of those deserve to be in the top 10. Mugshots/Christy's would be my winner, for completely different reasons. A Mugshot's burger is a little more "gourmet," while Christy's needs to give you something to catch the grease.

Cool Al's in Jackson and Nyla's in Osyka. Looks like neither made the list.

Stamp's burger form Burgers and Blues, Senor Huey form Huey's Memphis, and Mushroom and Swiss from Hooters(very underrated burger in my opinion)

Has anybody tried a Christy burger at the new Tupelo location? I haven't stopped in yet. I'm waiting on some grease build up on the new flat top before giving it a try.

It seemed like they regressed when they tore down the old shack it was in and built the current one (circa 2002). Also, the woman who always worked at (owned???) the old one in the late 90s was not involved with the new one.

I'm afraid it'll lack that spark. A while back Bill's Hamburgers, from Amory, put in a location in what once was Little Caesar's on Industrial and it didn't make it. I think the modern age may have done for Bill's -- once they started offering french fries and things besides mustard and onion on their burgers, it lost more than it gained for me.

I always like CS's burgers. Is that place still open? The one over by Milsaps?

that is basically a log cabin and is real close to the old Alumni House location. That place would make you sick to your stomach from the grease dripping from the fries/onion rings when you picked them up, but they did have a damn good burger.

I think my 1st place vote goes to Mugshots. That place does one of the best I've ever had.

Now that there's a Huey's on Desoto County, I'm surprised that it didn't make the list. I personally don't think it's one of the best, but people around Memphis damn sure love the place.

There is no other Back Yard Burger in Meridian that I am aware of except the chain. Lonnie and Pat's had the best burger in Meridian by a mile but they shut down a year or two ago. A damn shame.

You don't think of going to Char to order a burger, but my daughter did one Sunday. She said it was great and I took a bite. It just might be the best in the state. That's about all I will order there anymore.

Oh yeah, don't opt for the fries that come with the burger...ask for the micro onion rings. Thank me later.

Second place might be Roosters in Fondren. ( best cheese burger with carmelized onions.)

I actually like how they did the contest.

They allowed internet submissions (which they got over 200 of). The top 10 vote getters were announced (see list above) and the Mississippi Beef Council sent judges to each place without fanfare or announcement - they looked like normal customers and ate the run of the mill burger.

Trace Grill has a good burger and I forgot about Cool Al's.

I leave town.

Hopefully that will say a lot.

I do like Sonic, so dining here is not a total loss.
The Thai restaurant on North Hills close to Highway 19 is really good if anyone cares. Best place to eat in Meridian (my opinion)
Living in Meridian will make you appreciate Red Lobster, which has cheese biscuits, good iced tea and lobster pizza going for it
Olive Garden has best wait staff and I always liked their salad, but not much else there.
Popeye's chicken is always good wherever you find one and the two in Meridian are as good as any. I get red beans and rice as my side
CircleS Ranch? Good Catfish in Toomsuba has nirvana slaw, good hushuppys not bad cheese grits Catfish is nice, too Fried pickles end a good meal there.
Did you know Taco Bell can mess up a taco? The two in Meridian can.
La Pinata has excellent chips and salsa
Vietnamese seafood stands (H-39 and on 8th street) have good shrimp, oyster or catfish po-boys
all others options are leaning toward suckism

has a good burger marinated in Smithwicks beer and some other stuff. Home cut fries to go with it are good too. In Laurel, check out PDI (Phillips Drive In) been there since at least the 50's.

I'll second the Thai place, it is amazing!!
But come on..... San Marcos is head and shoulders above La Pinata.

I think it's still in the (distant) family. I've never eaten there, several people I know back up your claim about their burgers.

Now their Philly cheese steak is a whole different story. Very, very good. We need to do the Friday's at Brent's thing again this fall.

Sor'ta like Methodists and Presbyterians.

I go for the chips and salsa and then order something so they don't kick me out. My fondest memories were Iron Horse Grill in Jackson before it burned down. Great chips and salsa. Excellent Guacamole. The guacamole was almost as good as the Pancho's all you can eat Mexican buffets out in Texas.

Of course, nothing compares to a can of "C" ration p-nut butter in a rice paddy. After that culnary delight, everything else in life ought to be OK.

Probably why I like Sonic mustard burger with tater tots so much.

True confession time. I'm a sucker for a good corney dog.

I think I have moved over into old-fart-ism.

If you see a crabby old guy, that could be me.

I'll take a good order of sonic tater tots over 5guys fries any day. I should have ordered the single paddy burger, too. I got the double meat and the beat to bun to fixings balance got all out of whack for me.

Certainly had their quota of Yuppies the day we were there.

Across from Walker's drive-in. Haven't been there in a while. Need to spend more time in Jackson.

I still get cravings for it when i visit meridian. Seems like they were in and out of business for years though.
