I like that guy. Just beat #1 and wins the conference championship and walks across the field like he’s headed straight to the film room.

We missed our chance. When Indiana hired CIG i saw that halftime speech, I thought who is this bull**** artist . This guy is so full of shi*, well…..he was legit
Exactly, it’s why leach was perfect. if intelligent searches were made, you’d look for a guy who wins with less in hard to win places, and not at a coordinator in the big 12 coaching five stars against three starsAs a head coach go look at what he did at the D2 level, FCS level, and at James Madison. He’s been a winner and turned losers around into champions. This is the type of resume we need here. Not some overhyped coordinator that’s only been successful at a blue blood.
And people say development don't mean **** anymore. That's bullshitt. It means more than ever. Evaluations and development mean even more now. Everyone won't get 5 starsLook at the d lineman who came up with a big sack , Mario landino , soph rated 80/low 3 star only had offers from Ivy League and service academy. Bulked up from 6-4. 245 to 285, looked like a monster. Only a sophomore. How many schools would have even given him a chance .
Yep, there’s an nfl quality to IUs evaluation of players. I think Petrino had it looking at g5 players building that offense with little nil money nd I think Leach had it over the years always being out Resourced and out talented At every stop he coached at. Cignetti and his staff have to be the best in the country at it. I would literally try to hire retired nfl scouts to study film and identify talent. And people say development don't mean **** anymore. That's bullshitt. It means more than ever. Evaluations and development mean even more now. Everyone won't get 5 stars
this is the truth. I am so irritated with Selmon over his head coaching hire. Damn it!As a head coach go look at what he did at the D2 level, FCS level, and at James Madison. He’s been a winner and turned losers around into champions. This is the type of resume we need here. Not some overhyped coordinator that’s only been successful at a blue blood.
To be transparent, they did pick up a high 4 star transfer thats the overwhelming Heisman favorite. And people say development don't mean **** anymore. That's bullshitt. It means more than ever. Evaluations and development mean even more now. Everyone won't get 5 stars
Was he ever on our radar, and us on his?We missed our chance.
There was definitely talk about hiring him, and he likely would’ve acceptedWas he ever on our radar, and us on his?
Wow. That’s incredible.Indiana recruiting classes the last 2 years: 46th and 39th. That’s including transfers. Almost unbelievable what he’s done.
Evidently the Jame Madison one is too. Cignette had a winner’s resume at multiple lower levels, and his replacement Chesney did too. He got picked up by UCLA and they just went with Napier. Napier had only success at his first head gig Louisiana but still a pretty good replacement. It’s not rocket science, just hire proven winners and grinder who’s stacked wins at Juco/D-3/D-II/FCS/G5 hellholes, turned them into juggernauts, and jumped to P5 without NIL fairy dust.Indiana AD smartest AD in the country.
yes, but it’s less of a crapshoot when you hire guys who’s done more with less and turned around programs and won a multiple different levels. The bigger crap shoot is handing the keys over to some blue blood coordinator. I’m telling you the John Sumrall hire was a good one by Florida. His choice of OC was great. It's all a crapshoot.
Correction- evidently the AD that made the Cignette and Chesney hire retired. A new one made the Napier hire. Hence not the same mode of operation as the other twoEvidently the Jame Madison one is too. Cignette had a winner’s resume at multiple lower levels, and his replacement Chesney did too. And, then he gets up there at the post-game trophy presentation and says, “We’re a year late!”this is the truth. I am so irritated with Selmon over his head coaching hire. Damn it!
Look at this Cignetti speech, I bet he isn't telling anyone he 17ing loves them at midfield.
His demeanor kind of sabanesqueI like that guy. Just beat #1 and wins the conference championship and walks across the field like he’s headed straight to the film room.
This! Winners win. Hire someone that has won previously.Evidently the Jame Madison one is too. Cignette had a winner’s resume at multiple lower levels, and his replacement Chesney did too. Need to hire James Madison AD if Selmon goes to OUEvidently the Jame Madison one is too. Cignette had a winner’s resume at multiple lower levels, and his replacement Chesney did too. We need an elite evaluator abd developer. There are plenty of idiots here who think the key to success for Mississippi State is to recruit better than the blue bloods and play power football.
Coaching and talent development is more important in football than probably any other team sport. You have eleven players on the field at any one time and if you treat it as a numbers game, you need to increase the marginal value of each player through development and multiply the total value of the team through coaching. When you have offensive linemen in the wrong spots and missing blocks completely you might as well not even have them on the field. We need an elite evaluator abd developer.
I'm sick and tired of people saying we don't have the talent or nil when a coach like cignetti takes players with lower rankings and gets it done. Instead we hire coaches that need nil and 4 stars to not get blown out by Toledo. Now same said coaches compete with lower tier sec but call themselves out of the game
The one that hired Cignette and Chesney retired from there. But yes we need a new AD, that has the same track record at other places, not some fort timer from a blue blood.Need to hire James Madison AD if Selmon goes to OU
How old is that guy? Would an SEC job pull him out of retirement? The one that hired Cignette and Chesney retired from there. But yes we need a new AD, that has the same track record at other places, not some fort timer from a blue blood.
65. Jeff Bourne (no relation to Jason), climbed the ladder at small-school programs (D-III → FCS) for 17 years before landing the JMU AD chair at age 39. No big-time P5 assistant gigs, just a grinder who turned JMU from a sleepy CAA/I-AA program into an FBS power and hired legends like Mickey Matthews, Curt Cignetti, and Bob Chesney along the way. Before being in athletics, he was raised in a cattle farm and had dreams of becoming a veterinarian. Sounds like our kind of guy.How old is that guy? Would an SEC job pull him out of retirement?
