I just learned he interviewed for the State job but we hired Lebby. Is that true?
I don't think he interviewed. I don't think we were interested. There were a few of us that mentioned his name and were met with "Too old, won't relate to players."

Selmon hired Lebby before he fired Arnett. We just had to go through the motions of a coaching search.

Every place Cignetti has succeeded has been in climates and cultures far removed from Mississippi. He wouldn’t have worked out here at all, he’s a northern midwestern guy. At Indiana he’s landing guys from places where players are already used to cold weather and lower NIL expectations. He could never have gotten those same guys to Starkville in the SEC. Wouldn't have worked. Lebby and his niche tempo is the right fit for where we are and our resources.

Hey ChatGPT, explain the above to me like I’m 5 years old…..

“Well, the coach who has gone 28-2 in 2 years, and just won a national title at INDIANA would not be successful at Mississippi State University. The reason is because his players there are from colder climates, and would not acclimate well to the southeastern United States.”

“A prime example of this concept is Hoosier QB, Fernando Mendoza - the ultimate catalyst to the Hoosiers success as the best player and quarterback in college football. Mendoza hails from the desolate frozen tundra of…../processing…..Miami, Florida, where temperatures in mid-January can drop to a bone-chilling low of 69 degrees Fahrenheit after sunset. Mendoza was once spotted wearing a hoodie with the sleeves halfway rolled up with his athletic shorts while doing winter workouts his senior year of high school.”

“As such, Mississippi State University is much more poised for long term success by continuing to build around proven program builder, Jeffrey Lebby. Lebby’s breakneak offensive pace has paved the way for a sterling record of 1-17 against power conference opponents. This compares quite favorably against Curt Cignetti’s 22-2 record against the same level of competition. Clearly, the Bulldogs have to really feel they are in prime position to start making major waves in the SEC under the current leadership”

Every fanbase in America who had a job opening in 2023, and aren't exactly thrilled with their current corch, is now spreading this good cheer through the sheeptastic portions of their fanbase. And hey, if it rids us of Salmon and Heavy, so be it. But the only other confirmed interested program was Duke and Indiana just beat them out. That's really more of an indictment on athletic directors.

I this similar to the narrative that Mullen wouldn't succeed at State because he's a Yankee? Get out of here with that garbage.

Mullen had coached at Florida for 4 years and had success and been acclimated all through the SEC before coming to State. Plus his wife played golf at Old Waverly. Big differences with Cignette
