“It went great,” Johnson said of his time with Nutt. “My mom asked a lot of questions and I think he can help me be a better man, a better person and a better citizen and all that good stuff. Coach Nutt and I, outside of football, we’re kind of alike.

“He’s got a big lake by his house. Guys go out there and fish all the time. He’s got woods back behind his house so you can hunt. He’s got horses. He’s kind of more of an outside-type guy and I love to hunt and fish.”

“He told me it’s just like Auburn,” Johnson said. “He said they were a darkhorse until they got Cam Newton. He said if I came in, I could make a really big difference in the program and I could help them take that extra step. He emphasized how badly they need me there.”

Well, they are - just not in the way he is implying. They both stole big time recruits from State.

at 8-5 I would say that would make OM a pitch black horse this year at 4-8 with the easiest schedule in the SEC West.

If Nutt is going to draw that analogy, I hope CJ was at least smart enough to ask for $180k. Call him out and see if he really means it...

he's an idiot. The difference in winning the West and being 4-8 is not in 1 middle linebacker.Nutt can say they are a dark horse to compete in the West all he wants to, but the only dark horse I see them being in the West is competing against Auburn to see who has the worst record. For a team like ours that is losing 3 LB's, yes he can make a difference, but initially, not in the win column. Down the road he can help make us a complete team from what we've already built.

I think Ferlando Bohanna can be a beast in this defense. Dude has no neck, and he just looks like he wants to hurt someone. He will get good reps, and I think will prove himself soon.

Do we want CJ? Absolutely 100%. Do he make or break a 7 or 8 win season next year for MSU next year? No I don't think he does. We've got some speed and size at LB and although we will be young, they will learn and do well with Collins there and being in a very similar system as last year. A LB core of Bohanna, Skinner, and Hughes/Lawrence doesn't sound bad at all.

No doubt he was a stud LB and impacted the game, but the other pieces were not there. I imagine this is the same pitch they are throwing at CJ.

the pitch is not how many SEC titles PW won..the pitch is that he is in the league now and making the big bucks...I think CJ is more concerned with that than SEC titles....with that said I still hope he comes to State...

Nutt is obviously racist, calling Cam and the entire Auburn team names like this is not acceptable.

but for most high school recruits, it's not about next year. What you sign in this class is going to have its biggest impact in 2013 and 2014. If your class sucks this year, it's not going to hurt you for a few more years. If CJ is going to be a great player, which is obviously not certain, then you won't feel the impact of missing him next year, so you are right about that. You'd feel the impact of missing on a player 3-4 years later when you have someone else playing that spot.

A big part of the reason we struggled so much this year was our 2007 class and how bad the attrition hit that class. Also, our 2008 class wasn't that strong. Couple those together, and 2010 was going to be a tough one. The 2010 class had very little to do with the 2010 season. A decent number of guys contributed from that class, but in most cases the guys that had to contribute weren't ready, and that's normally the case with freshmen.

Ideally, in losing White and Wright, you should be looking to replace those two with guys you already have on the roster. If you don't have guys at those spots, the second option is Juco. If you're looking for a true freshman to step in and take over that spot, it's not going to be nearly as good as it could be, no matter how talented, with very few exceptions.

Even with Patrick Willis, he played a decent amount as a freshman, but he played behind Justin Wade of all people, mainly because he wasn't ready to run the defense as a true freshman.

Chris Strong, #3 LB in the nation (07) how his signing with Ole Miss impacted their defense the past two seasons since he is not even on the roster anymore.
Pat Patterson how he was promised to be the guy and Nutt's most prized recruit. Only made it one season.
Tig Barksdale, one of the greatest RB/S Athletes to ever play ball in this grate state. Ask him what is was like to sign with Ole Miss, then to transfer because he hated it so bad. Then ask Tig what is was like to beat Nutt while playing for Jacksonville St.

If CJ is smarter (more dedicated to school) than Chris Strong and less into weed than Pat Patterson, he'll be fine. Both could be said for Tig, but you could add other drugs too.

If you're saying CJ is an idiot that's into drugs, then he'll fail wherever he chooses to play.

From what I've read about him, I don't think he has either of those issues, so I'm guessing he'll be fine wherever he goes.

First of all the word Drug was never used in my post. I see you use it quite frequently. If there is a drug problem at your school you should do something about that and wouldn't that be even more reason for CJ not to attend.
Secondly, you act as if you smoke weed you will not succeed athletically, which is just a lie. Im willing to bet 30 -40 % of NBA players puff the Jaheem, and probably 25% of NFL players do as well. I believe Percy Harvin failed his drug test before he was a first round pick. We all know what Mike Vick does during his off season. Just 2 examples to prove that your point is completely false.

Did Tig stop using drugs when he transferred or did he beat you while he was High?

As long as weed doesn't rule your life, you can play sports and not have it affect you, much like drinking. If you're showing up to practice or meetings high, you have a problem.

The reason I brought up drugs is because those particular guys had issues above and beyond the norm. You knew that I'm sure, but it didn't fit a point you were trying to make.

There is no reason a highly rated recruit can't succeed at Ole Miss, and it happens all the time. If drugs are more important to a guy than football or if he's lazy in the classroom, he's not going to succeed anywhere. That's a personal issue, not a school issue, unless you're claiming CJ has those issues.

Tig has never stopped doing drugs. He was such a big part of what his team was doing that he ran for fewer than 400 yards this past season. I hope he gets his mind right, but if he doesn't, he won't make it at JSU either, just like he didn't at Ole Miss. Pat Patterson couldn't make it at EMCC after not making it at Ole Miss. Again, that's a personal problem. Patterson wouldn't have been any better off at MSU, and neither would Tig. Neither would Chris Strong, unless you let guys pass who don't attend class.

That's the case with most players. They either have issues or they don't. If they have issues, it doesn't matter where they sign, they aren't going to work them out until they decide to do it on their own. If a player is focused, willing to work, and talented, he's going to succeed wherever he goes. Arguing otherwise is just stupid, which is what I think you were going for.

I'll give you Jerrell Powe as an example. He was highly rated out of high school but had tons of transcript issues, to put it nicely. He finally got in school, and he was way overweight. However, he was focused and willing to work, so he was able to stay in school and lose the weight so that he could give himself a shot to get drafted, which is more than most guys get. Had he been lazy, he would've been back home in Waynesboro a long time ago.
