Surely I'm not the only guy that has rung the ringer out of a bunch of cowbells. How do you fix these? I've had a helluva time trying to find a replacement clapper...not even at fishing shops. Its hard to find a clapper as big as the original (and I'm referring to the larger of the couple size bells that the bookstore sells).

Don't want to jut put a nut in there and have sharp edges hammering out holes in my bell.

Chain repair link from the hardware store. Measure first so you don't get one too big and it hangs out the bottom of the bell.

My lead clapper flew out of my cowbell during the 1987 Egg Bowl and smacked an old lady upside the head. After profusely apologizing, I found the clapper and drilled a hole through the middle of it and twisted the metal around it. Instead of a small eyelet that would easily fall off, I had it smack dab through the middle.

Also, the tiny padlock works well.</p>

it worked great until I noticed that every time I rang it I showered the people in front of and behind me with tiny pieces of lead.

I just put a bolt and nut in mine about 1984. It makes a great sound and the end of the bolt has been beaten down so that it can't come undone--it has no threads at all on most of the bolt sticking out.
