from Chris Low's blog:

Wiley in Riviera, Texas writes: Could you address the ESPN/SEC football arrangement? It was my understanding that all games would be broadcast somewhere, correct?</p>

Chris Low: You are correct. Every SEC game will be televised in some form or another this fall. CBS and ESPN will have most of the marquee games, but ABC, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN Regional will also carry games. ESPN Regional will take over the Raycom syndication and carry games in the 12:30 p.m. ET window. Some games will show up as <span style="font-weight: bold;">FOX Regional</span> or <span style="font-weight: bold;">CSS telecasts</span>, while others will be televised on a <span style="font-weight: bold;">pay-per-view basis by the schools</span>. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Those telecasts are included in the ESPN GamePlan package that fans can purchase.</span> So in other words, you'll have SEC football coming out of your eyeballs. Here's a link to the games on ABC/ESPN that have been announced to this point.</p>

Satellite subscribers can breathe a little easier.

The point is, those games will be on GamePlan. I'm pretty sure you can get that on DirectTV.

There was some discussion earlier about whether this would be case or not. I didn't think ESPN would give outlets like CSS rights without retaining the ability to put any and all games on GamePlan.

I don't think that's what it is saying. I think it is saying the games that aren't on Fox Sports or CSS will be pay-per-view games, and those will be the ones on GamePlan. I could be wrong. I am a reluctant Comcast subscriber (trees) and I only hope that we have ESPNU in time for football season. They say we will, which makes me believe even more that we won't. But I think if you don't have Comcast you are S.O.L on the CSS games, at least for this season. CSS never should have been a part of this deal.

I suppose it can be read that way. However, I think Low did a ****** job explaining things if you're right. I read it as two separate categories of broadcasts: 1) those under the ESPN family and 2) those that are not (Fox, CSS, pay-per-view), and those that are not will be available on GamePlan.

I guess it's possible I'm just reading it the way I want it to be in the end since I have satellite without the option of cable. It doesn't make sense to me that ESPN would cut out so many fans by not retaining GamePlan rights to the CSS games. There are plenty of areas in "SEC territory" that Comcast/Charter don't offer service so this isn't even and cable v. satellite issue in some instances.

that the games not shown on one of ESPN's channels will be shown on either, CSS, Fox Sports South, Pay Per View, OR ESPN Gameplan.

The games on CSS will in NO way be included in ESPN Gameplan or available through Pay Per View, they will only be shown on CSS.

That is what I have been told by someone with knowledge of the deal. (I know what your are saying, "great another source."

The scenario that would most seem to threaten Directv customers would when Gameplan has a blackout in effect for MS (which is the case for most home games), and the game is on CSS (a non Directv channel).

I'm surprised no one has discussed espn360. What games would be on there?

I am almost 100% sure any CSS games will be on espn360. ESPN kept their rights to broadcast it over espn360. This leads me to believe that CSS games may be on gameplan as well.
