The Eagles dropped a close on to Millbrook 20-14. I am sure Coach Parker will have them ready for next week. From what I heard tonight the Eagles left points on the field by not finishing drives. This loss could be what the Eagles need to keep them focused on the main goal.

It'll be good for the Clarke program to have a game or two like this to help them be more prepared for postseason play.

I wasn't at the game, but heard a bunch of kerfluffle about a pass interference call against Millbrook that didn't result in an automatic first down for Clarke. Anyone out there familiar with the play or the call? Something about it being near the goal line? I dunno!

If I recall right it was 4th and 12 from around the 20 yard line. The pass was thrown into the end zone where pass interference was called against Millbrook. Clarke was given 10 yards which made it 4th and 2. They went for it and failed to gain the yardage. Clarke was winning 14-12 at the time but Millbrook drove the length of the field and took the lead 20-14 which ended up the final score. Clarke drove 80 yards in less than a minute through the air but had a pass intercepted in the end zone from the ten yard line with 50 seconds left in the game.

I thought pass interference was automatic first down but it must not be in high school.

Per this article, there is no automatic first downs for pass interference any more, as adopted in January of this year.

from the article said:
Perhaps the most significant rules change next season will be one that reduces the penalty for pass interference. While the 15-yard penalty will remain for both offensive and defensive pass interference, the loss of down has been removed for offensive pass interference and the automatic first down has been eliminated for defensive pass interference.

Yes, Thank you! I figured that since it was a 15 yard penalty and since Clarke was inside the 20, the refs make it a half the distance to the goal deal, thus not getting a first down.

Why isn't a first down automatic on a defensive pass interference play in HS?
