Picked up the Yanks after "ace" starter Gerritt Cole was pulled after an erratic 1.2 innings. Schmidt pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, striking out 6, to pick up his first career win. Came in with the bases loaded and the Yankees up by 1 and struck out the Detroit hitter to preserve the lead.
