Class 1 Games Opening Week

I know a lot has changed but it looks like the master schedule has been updated since it first posted. But its good to have football back.

From what I can gather it looks like a very limited start on the Eastern side of the state with a few versions of Friday Night Lights and in the West we get some Monday night football and Saturday action in week one with no Friday night games and Region D seeing the most action:

Thoughts? Corrections? Cancelations?

2A Luray at Northumberland on Saturday (2-27).

Excited for life to return to normal and to see some exciting Virginia High School football and all sports!

I believe this Altavista game against Appomattox is happening with the host changing. Altavista hosts Appomattox this Friday. I'm pretty sure William Campbell plays Nelson this Friday as well but I don't know who's hosting that game. The Pittsylvania County schools (Chatham, Dan River, Gretna, Tunstall) are playing within the county this year... eventually. I haven't heard when they'll actually play. Some schools wanted to play a home-and-home with the other three schools so they could get in six games but I'm guessing they only get three games. The superintendent said that the region would let them in even though they only played each other but I have no idea how that would work, especially if they only play three games.

Wow, that is a haul for Luray. Good for those guys for being willing to make that happen for their kids.

Agreed. A big thanks to Luray for making the trip. The game starts at 1pm this Saturday.

I seem to recall Northumberland playing Luray in the playoffs about 4 or 5 years ago. Luray won by about 10.

I think that was like the 1st year that NHS had a winning season in a long time. NHS football had struggled mightily for over 20 years for the most part and began to turn it around that season.

Im looking to find out if the game will atleast be on a radio broadcast. Id hate to have to sit in Altavistas parking lot just to keep track of the game.

105.5 used to broadcast Altavista games, not sure if they still do.

Is it even that many? Is Mathews still having a team? They forfeited their game this week against KW. Lancaster is supposed to make a decision tonight, but regardless, I expect it would be hard to get many games scheduled at this point. King and Queen, West Point, Rappahannock, Northumberland and Northampton are the only ones that I know for certain.

Schools are still scrambling to find games. Not sure about Mathews but do know their first 3 games (Feb 22, 26 and March 5) have been ppd. West Point has added Northumberland to replace its March 5 game vs Mathews.

Unfortunately some more bad local football news, the Luray at Northumberland game was canceled. I do not know the reasons.

The good news is, as NNDman mentioned, West Point was added to the NHS schedule. Northumberland goes to WP next Friday!

Two things here:
1. Northampton-Windsor was not played due to field conditions plus Friday night's rain
2. Mathews is not fielding a varsity team due to lack of participation. Will play a limited JV schedule

I was wondering why I couldn't find the Northampton/Windsor score. Makes sense now. KQ plays at Northampton next Friday.

As for Mathews, I don't know the details, but it looks like them getting rid of Coach Kelly has caused many kids to choose not to play. That decision could have an effect on that program for awhile. Those kids loved Coach Kelly and played hard for him
