No offense, and I know when you wrote "2A" you were referring to who is the top picks in All of Virginia's Class 2. In the VHSL classification system, there are no "A's" or Letters. Only numbers....Classes 1 through 6. Its easy for some to immediately have their mind go to Region A, when the letter A is used. Most people refer to "2A" as meaning, Virginia Class 2, Region A. But, I know you were referring to ALL of Class 2.
To answer your question. The top teams in Class 2 (all of Virginia's class 2, not just Region A) are Armstrong, Union, Graham, Poquoson, Glenvar, Strasburg. It would be a MAJOR upset if 1 of those 6 did not win it. I think Armstrong and Union are the favorites, but very, very close with the other 4 schools. Armstrong, Glenvar and Union have ran the table and look awesome. Poquoson is always good and they beat Lafayette. Strasburg has been rolling through opponents since the early season loss and played for the state title last year. And then there is Graham. Talent for talent, for the 22 on the field, still the most talented of the pack I think. I know Armstrong fans or Union fans or Glenvar fans will say not so fast, but Graham is riddled with talent. Names like Bradshaw and Isabelle who's father's played in the NFL and other multiple future D1 prospects, but Graham is young and raw. They've grown up from game 1, and continue to look like a different team with each passing weak. Will Grahams always super talented team be mature enough this year? Will it make up the difference by the time they go to Union, and then Glenvar IF...IF Graham wins and IF...gigantic IF...they win that, can they beat the East? Graham doesnt have a talent problem. They have a youth problem, but that youth has rapidly grown up, but dont know if it's enough. Time will tell.
My money to win it all is on Graham. Im a Homer though as Graham is my team. So take that with a grain a salt. I said this in week 1, better beat the GMen this year, because the next 3 years, not just next year, but the next 3 years, Graham might have its most talented teams in school history. The GMen have improved this year and might be good enough to win it, maybe not, but next year, they are going to be dynamite. The problem for Graham? Union. Graham will have to go to a Union team that might be the best theyve ever had since Powell Valley and Appalachia combined to form Union, then there is Glenvar who looks unbeatable at times, then there is Armstrong who is loaded with Richmond talent and is on par with Graham when it comes to overall talent load and Armstrongs defense looks out of this world. A smart man would bet on Union and Armstrong, but admittingly, I'm a GMen Homer, so Im going with the GMen and fingers crossed of course.
