This is premature given how Northside and Carroll County still need to decide the Region 3D champ. I'm thinking the Vikings win it for the third year in a row, but other than that, our matchups are set.

#2 New Kent @ #1 Meridian
#2 William Monroe @ #1 Hopewell
#2 Western Albemarle @ #1 Northside
#2 Carroll County @ #1 Spotswood

New Kent over Meridian in a close, high scoring contest
Hopewell over Monroe by 25+
Northside over Western by 15+
Spotswood over Carroll County by 10

Hopewell over New Kent again by 10-12 points
Northside over Spotswood by 5

Hopewell beats Northside to stop the 3peat in a close game, 5-7 point win

Sounds about what I was thinking. Would love to see Hopewell and Northside in rematch from two year ago.

I was just checking to see who hosts the semifinals for this particular class.

Looks like if all the seeds hold to form, the top half of the bracket hosts - is that correct?

That means A#1 (Hopewell) would host B#1 (Meridian), and C#1 (Spotswood) would host D#1 (Northside)

In the case, I actually would give a slight favorite to Spotswood over Northside - the Trailblazers seem to be on a mission this year, and I would look for them to stop Northside's 3-peat attempt, especially playing on their home court (if that's how it turns out)

On a neutral court for the final, I give the slight edge to Hopewell over Spotswood.

For the girls, I think the tournament is more wide open than it might appear.

James Monroe (undefeated), Spotswood, Lord Botetourt/Staunton River - any of these teams could win it all.

I'd really be pulling for Spotswood to beat Northside finally and defeat their demons (lost last three years to them). Having home-court is big, perhaps a game at JMU? Would be epic. Ultimately, I just think Spotswood's supporting cast behind their three seniors and leading scorers (Pachecho, Sprague, Lightride) might just be a little too inexperienced (lots of the rest were on JV last year) to knock off the back-to-back defending champs, but the talent of Pacheco is for real. Counterpoint to my own argument, Spotswood's role guys were HUGE in their big win at Western. They had a bench kid come in and torch the Warriors for six 3s in the second half last night. So if they can step up, they have a real shot. Pacheco vs Hardy is a true sight to see. Both need to take care of business in the quarters first though, of course.

Where will the Northside / Western Albemarle game be played?

Bumping to show that we had a 'sense' that Spotswood could win the battle with Northside...

They play VERY well - home crowd was insane

I'm still sticking with my original "Hopewell over Spotswood" on a neutral court original prediction.

How well does Spotswood match up with Hopewell, Hopewell has Jordan at 6'10, Spellman at 6'7 and Cherry at 6'4 in the starting lineup with Marsh 6'5 coming off the bench. Bryd and Coleman at guards they are quick and good ball handlers and can score.

Spotswood doesn't have anywhere near the length or size of Hopewell. Will give them problems. As mentioned above, I think Spotswood will have the best player on the court with Pacheco, but it could be a tough matchup. Not sure he's played against anyone good with size like Hopewell has.

I do believe Spellman of Hopewell maybe one of the best player in the state, D1 recruit and at 6'7 is match up problem for any team and he just a junior and only one 2 senior on this team. One starter Coleman is a senior.
