Who will take it this year?

1. Varina has the best looking skill group in the state but has to replace many pieces from their front 7 and offensive line. Zion Boisseau (Dinwiddie: Richmond commit), Blair Morris (Caroline: ECU and UVA offers), Deuce Mason (Trinity: Citadel commit), Gayron Few (Essex: All State C1 lineman), and Markus Lee (Herm: UVA commit) is an insane haul in one offseason.

2. We hear it every year, but is this the year that Huguenot rises to the top? They are as loaded as they come and return many 3 year starters.

3. Dinwiddie lost > 95% of their offensive production to graduation and transfers. Billy Mills has quite a lot of young talent on his roster. Tough games against Salem and Highland Springs within the first 4 games, the young guns will grow up fast.

4. Vern Lunsford had one of the best runs in the Region’s history at King George. Entering year two at Spotsy he has a ton of young talent who started last year as freshmen. Don't know if they’re as strong as the 3 teams mentioned above them in the trenches, but they’ll be in the conversation come playoff time.

5. Will Patrick IMO is one of the best active coaches in Virginia and I expect the Louisa Lions to be 10-0 come playoff time. They’ll be very gritty and physical in the trenches.

6. Gotta think Courtland and Spotsy (along with JM but they are C3) will battle it out for the Battlefield. Never know what to expect from Courtland but I give Spotsy the edge.

7. Monacan, Powahtan and Hanover should round it out. Will be interesting to see what this bracket looks like in November.

I'm curious about your Monacan improving comment.

5-5 in 2021
4-6 in 2022
3-7 in 2023
5-5 in 2024
3-7 in 2025

I'm not sure where I'm seeing the improvement?

Got my seasons mixed up. They lost out to Powahtan (#8 seed) for a playoff spot back in 2024. Powahtan lost to Dinwiddie in the first round. I stand corrected.

Feels weird to say that this year is a make it or break it year for Huguenot because Charles Scott Jr. still has another year and all the young talent that coming behind this years rising seniors but it really does feel like it’s make it or break it. Apparently, Mechanicsville looking to make some noise. With their schedule and the region they play in, they really can’t afford to lose more than 2 games this year

Who is coaching at Mville now? That’s almost the last team I expected to hear about!

I agree 100% on Scott. I was shocked that he ran it back this year after all of the “noise” he’s received from the Varina matchups. Good dude who cares about the kids so you hate to see that community potentially lose him.

Dinwiddie was at Mechanicsville’s team camp a few weeks back. I heard it was good bump for the young Generals. Lee Davis hasn’t been good since Billy Kemp played for them before going to the Springs. I’m glad to hear that. You never know what you’ll get from the Hanover teams these days.

From the Richmond Times-Dispatch

“Richmond high school football storylines to watch ahead of 2026 season:

Can Huguenot challenge Varina in 4B?
Huguenot has gone 30-6 in three standout seasons under coach Charles Scott, and will this year be among the area's top teams with junior QB and Alabama commit Charles Scott Jr. leading a potent, explosive squad with a wealth of talent across the skill positions.

But each of the past three seasons, the Falcons have fallen to Varina in the 4B playoffs. Huguenot opens with a huge test Sept. 4 at Highland Springs, then should prove a buzzsaw in the Dominion District.

Throughout the campaign, the question will linger — can the Falcons be ready to challenge the Blue Devils atop 4B come playoff time?

With Varina's rigorous schedule, it's entirely possible that potential matchup could be played on Forest Hill Ave. Does Huguenot belong in that elite local top tier alongside the Blue Devils and Cadets?

"How good are you in the trenches?" Bell said of that potential matchup. "That's what Varina prides themselves on is their front seven, how violent they are at the point of attack, how they fly to the ball. If Huguenot can advance that piece, I think they have a chance at knocking off Varina and being that region champion. That would be a really exciting game."

Good on the Mville for bringing in Dinwiddie. Rubbing shoulders with a great program is always good for development.

Yeah, that L-D team circa 14-15ish right?

Yessir! Dinwiddie and LC Bird were there. Excellent bump.

That sounds about right. I recall both teams being ranked pretty high and Springers beat them badly. Think they met in the playoffs and Springs beat them by a score. Second match up was high scoring. Think Lee Davis still had Nate Evans (Rest in Peace), Kemp and some solid skill guys.

Lee-Davis had some solid years after Billy transferred but the well seemed to dry up after the 16-17 seasons. Given that hazing situation that pop up a few years later who knows what was going on behind the scenes

Yup, you’re exactly right. 2015-17 was probably the best run LD had since I’ve been alive. Unfortunately for them, they were playing in the gauntlet that was 5B at the time

Yup and Atlee was good too. Cole Blackman, J.J. Givens, Ricky Deberry, and they had a few more big time recruits. Crazy the amount of talent across the board back then. Now kids want to join up to make super teams 🤦🏽‍♂️
