Patrick Henry should finish with its first 10–0 regular season since 1985. They are a good team. However, IMHO should they go into the playoffs as the number one or number two seed in Class 5 Region C, the Patriots will prove to be a paper tiger. That undefeated regular season is in large part due to the fact that the River Ridge District is the absolute worst it’s ever been. Plus, PH has played only two opponents (Southern Alamance and William Fleming) that might end the regular season with winning records, and neither of those are assured. For reference, Fleming is currently in the eighth spot, and PH only defeated the Colonels by a score of 14–2.

I’d like to see Roanoke–area teams do well in the playoffs. However, I currently cannot envision PH beating either Highland Springs or Glen Allen, and probably not Meadowbrook. PH’s playoff record under Fiddler is a less-than-stellar 3-13. So, once his teams get out of the regular season when they’re playing mostly schools considerably smaller, the Patriots have found the going much rougher against playoff-caliber Class 5 teams. We’ll know in five or six short weeks!

Unfortunately this is not exclusive to just PH. I won’t name teams, but several across all Classes and Regions often go 9-1 or 10-0, because of their weak schedules. District opponents are what they are, but these teams just don’t seem to take the opportunity to schedule a challenging team or two with their OOD opponents. 10-0 looks impressive until they end up 10-1.

That’s kind of how I felt about William Fleming last year, they got a tough impressive win over Louisa tho I will say that

PH should be able to get a first-round win, especially if they land the top seed. After that, the semis are iffy, and I definitely don’t see them winning the region.

Fleming had an excellent chance to make the state semis last year, but from what I understand, they got several key guys banged up in a very physical mid-season win over William Byrd. Apparently, Fleming wasn’t quite the same team after that game.

Although I’m of the camp that is of the opinion that Louisa County is a bit overrated on a perennial basis, I agree that was a pretty good win for Fleming last year.
