And they didn’t…
Still not sure how they missed that intentional grounding call. It was clear as day. Really made a difference with field position. But true PC didn’t stop them prior and SF marched down the field. Defense was lacking all game. But it was a great game to watch hats off to SF and both teams should be proud

What a great 5A championship, decided on the last plays of the game! And congratulations to the third team on the field, tonight’s officiating crew! Wallace, Harris, Hinkamper, Harris, and Dobson from Highland area had a solid game and came together to make the biggest and correct call on the incomplete pass from outside the tackle box by the SF QB.
Officials get a lot of bad publicity on the Board, and usually deserved…not this time.

Did providence forget they had 3 timeouts? Franny coach owes the Provo coach his second born
Not to pile on, but now PC can use all those saved timeouts on their social media accounts. Perhaps call a timeout on a local news outlet the head coach took issue with earlier in the playoffs.

they were in a tough spot with taking timeouts but you never want to leave yourself with extra timeouts at the end wondering what could have been, especially in a game where both teams struggled to get stops.

entertainijg game and the offenses on both sides showed real well given The challenges .

Was it? I need to go back and take a screen shot. Was a fumble/touchback ever a possibility? I fear no one wants to make a major call like that in a state final game and rather opt for the kids to play it out.

Pretty frustrating to watch even as a just a general football fan with no skin in the game.

Neither team proved they could stop the other pretty much all game so I’m not sure why they were optimistically watching SF bleed the clock. If anything let them score and you have a minute and change with 3 timeouts.

Glad the kids found a way to win Franny staff should buy them all steaks

He clearly underhanded it intentionally so not a fumble in my opinion. Whether or not he was really outside the tackle box or the ball made it to the 1 I don’t know would need to rewatch it. That kid is a DUDE though and happy for him he worked his tail off and single-handedly brought home a state championship for his school.

Unless the officials have instant replay the plays happens so fast. I liked how the Refs huddled up and made a call they all were happy with, that’s all you can ask for. 3A game had a call in the last few seconds that could have changed the game entirely. In both calls I think the right calls were made. And I’m a fan of let the kids play and decide the outcome unless it’s an obvious call.

Agreed the kids on both sides a showed well for themselves. The coaching and game management on both sides was interesting.

I had the same thoughts inside of 3 minutes thinking, “unless you feel real good that your defense is going to keep them out of the end zone, you’re probably best off not messing with the time out/time management game and instead just letting them score so now you can have the ball with under 3 minutes to go, some timeouts in hand, and you control how and when the game ends.” I know it’s tough to let someone score, but that was likely the play to make there.

The real hard pill to swallow for PC is that if this game is played on Saturday when it was originally scheduled, I feel Providence has over an 80 percent likelihood to win. In those conditions, one QB can’t take over a game like we saw today. Very difficult loss for PC.

Franny and they win the rematch next year that pushes you both up to 6a in time for JCA and Naz to come back down to 5a
That would be hilarious.
But seriously, SF has kids coming back but lose some long time starters and playmakers. We will see how they look come next summer.

I’d miss our semi final date too much so I hope I am wrong. However, it’s hard not to see it happening.

Just from a regular season standpoint, MaxPreps had Frannys varsity roster at less than 40. I know they are graduating some long time starters but is there any concern to how many kids are filling the roster for 2026?

Congrats to SF players and coaches on winning it all.

I think Naz has to be a favorite to get to a 6A final next year. That would likely keep them bumped up to 6A with the new 2 placements in three years formula. Though it is kept somewhat intentionally nebulous because one of those final appearances would be 5A and one would be 6A.

The team picture on the IHSA site has 32 uniformed kids. That is crazy to me for a 5A school.

High end talent, but I have to imagine depth is a major issue for them to sustain success in the CCL and 5A. Would certainly get harder if they get bumped to 6A and still have low to mid 30s on varsity roster.

Could not agree more - after replay, the officials made the right call, and I also liked they got together and discussed. Let the kids play and decide the outcome.

I hope you’re right but I think it’s at least a 1 year reload. If you are right and that’s the case would Naz still miss Franny and move up to 7a?

And who knows with new divisions if that regular season match-up will be there next two years.
And you are way more optimistic about Sparty next year. I am not predicting gloom and doom, more, might take a bit to figure it out type of year.

They have done it for 3 years now.
I expect numbers will be higher as they had a good sized FR class and I believe Soph class was bigger as well.

You shut your mouth when you’re talking to me!

I barely coped with the semifinals date being canceled I couldn’t live without our week 9 matchup. Would it even be football without it?

That's the weird, vague part of this.

If Naz is a finalist in 2024 (5A) and in 2026 (6A) then they meet the two finalists in three years criteria. Does that "keep" them bumped up to 6A? Or is that enough to bump them to 7A? I assume it keeps them bumped to 6A instead of going back to 5A. But, if that is the case, and they also reach the 6A finals in 2027, I assume that then is enough to bump them to 7A in 2028?? Clear as mud....

Refs definitely got the call correct. I would have preferred them NOT throw the flag, and then come together to discuss it. But in that moment what matters most is that they got it right.

For those not sure if he was out of the tackle box or not, keep in mind the guidance Illinois officials have been given by the head of IHSA football as it pertains to ruling on this..... "when in doubt, he is out". As in when not sure if he is out of the tackle box or not.

I see the throwing of the flag as more of a way for them to talk about it rather than huddling up when no flag is thrown.

Interesting tidbit about the guidance given to refs, it makes sense.

Good points.

I think he cuts it up between the tackle and guard then as he's diving lands outside the box and rolls it underhand and I think it gets to the 1 before it rolls. Either way it was going to be their ball with a 4th down play to win it and the QB was going to bail out the old ball coach. I like the "no call"

I am curious what the guidance is on waving a pass incomplete. After the numerous tiktok angles I do not find one ref that signaled incomplete pass. If it's an obvious incompletion I guess no need to wave your hands but you'd think on that big of a play with that close of a call a ref would make a call one way or another. It was literally blow the whistle and huddle up and decide what they want to do. Just weird observations

Call was correct ! Provi again can't manage the clock. HC was saving the timeouts for OT ? Bottom line, 1 play didn't lose the game.
