So Chadron gets to travel 422 miles to play a softball game. I understand the reason for seeding and earning home field but shouldn’t there be occasions where common sense takes over?

They get to play at least 2 games. I think they would prefer playing rather than not being in the position they are currently in.
I was surprised they did away with neutral sites in the sub-district round. Class B still uses it for districts (until the finals). There was a good possibility up until a few days ago that Chadron was going to host a subdistrict and three teams would have traveled out there, with two potentially only playing one game.

What common sense? You play all year to earn a home field advantage. In a neutral site? You have to find a town that has hS softball not all do . And then you have to pay someone to get the field ready and have an official book and clock operator and consession stand workers ? Member schools voted this in . Sounds to me Common sense took over

I had a friend who was on the NSAA board of directors ( recently retired) they used to have neutral sites in everything except football. Then they went to a mileage factor and it still a neutral site over that mileage.he said it was getting harder and harder to find schools not involved to open their gyms , fields etc, to host eventts because of the reasons I stated in another post . The member schools I think thought it would be easier for schools involved to be a host . So that why they voted the no neutral site anymore,

To add to that, there were member schools that were tired of losing host advantage year in and year out. Schools located in the far western part of the state were always playing neutral site games against eastern (or central) located opponents.....while those in the east, got to host on their home fields.

I believe when it changed in the Lower class was Bayard was undefeated in VB and played 16 seeded Sumerland in a the district final.. They had to play a neutral site because of the mileage and Summerland upset them. I believe Bayard proposed a motion to have the highest seed host regardless of mileage .

In softball?
In B/C (not familiar with A) it used to be 7 regional districts and 1 wild card. In 2019, It got changed because a few districts sent teams to state that never stood a chance at state.
Class B/C in '19 went to 10 hosts working west to east (no north/south taken in to account) and grouped them together that way. Took 10 sub winners and 6 wild cards. True serpentine with final 16 in a best 2/3, no neutral site. In '21 for example, Gross went to ScoBlo.
Class C was roughly the same. In '22, Chadron went to Neumann.
Now, B is 7 serpentined districts and 1 wild card. C is now 10 serpentined sub-districts and 6 WC's advance to 2/3 finals with no neutral hosts.

B does use neutral sites during districts except for the finals.

Yes, if teams are over 300 miles I believe. The Wahoo B district is in Hastings. Hypothetically if Alliance made the finals, they would have to go to Wahoo/Blair/NE City, or whoever made the finals. No neutral site.
My point was there hasn't always been neutral sites, at least for softball.
I do miss the days of basketball having neutral sub hosts, then playing in a neutral, bigger gym for finals.
