Finally, a media member blaming Stoops for this mess. Meanwhile, Mark Buerger is defending Stoops with his every last breath. Annoying.

Louisville paper coming down pretty hard on Stoops today too. 'comedy of errors' 'new low point of Stoops era' etc.

Truth hurts but we got screwed on that TD pass in back of endzone to G. Johnson. He was in. They have a picture of it on KSR. Next play int.

He was not in. His tow touched in bounds, but then his heal came down out of bounds. The entire foot must be in bounds when it comes down.

Honest question. How is it different when a player drags the toe? Obviously the entire foot isn't coming down in bounds in that case.

He nailed it here IMO:

"On the field, Stoops is an emotional coach who spends a good amount of his time pleading his team's case to the officials or challenging his coaches and players. There's a place for that. There's also a place for attention to detail and making sure your team is managed correctly."

Simple human-body physics. If you're facing the out of bounds line and your toe touches the ground then obviously your heel would touch inbounds if your entire foot had hit the ground.

This has been the rule in football forever, not sure why so many are confused by it.

Because his toe at that point is considered his whole foot as it is the only part that comes down. In the play yesterday, his entire foot came down, half of it out of bounds.

OK thanks. Just for arguments sake, if on the play yesterday, our receiver had dragged the toe backward, out of bounds instead of coming down with the heel, would it have been ruled a TD?

Couple things. First I don't think the rule has anything to do with whether the player is facing out of bounds or not, and second, I could do without the smartass.

How much longer can UK afford the Stoops experiment? So far he has shown ineptness in hiring,decision making,and pretty much everything needed to run a successful football program.He seems to be Ray,Curry,and Phillips rolled into one.

Yes. If no part of the foot that didn't touch inbounds first touched out of bounds before the ball of his foot (part that landed in bounds) touched out of bounds, it would not be. But, if he lands like he did, and the part that touched in bounds is the first part to touch out bounds, it's a TD. Sorry, it's kind of confusing to type.

Ray as a former DC had decent defense here. No trace of it now under Stoops.

Going to pose the same question. Happens in the pros (both feet) all the time. Be interested to hear the response from those who know the rules.

  • 4. If a Player has a “Tippy-toe” stance on the Sideline or End line either from returning to the ground or on the ground after establishing Firm Control, the Player must maintain that stance for the duration for it to be a CATCH. If the Toe touches inbounds, but the Heel touches out of bounds, RULE INCOMPLETE.

The thing I don't get is how all this has happened in year 3 when, in years 1 & 2, this team looked so well-coached at times. Seriously, even though we only won 2 games in year 1, the team looked very well-drilled (at least it did to me) compared to JP's regime. WTH has happened?

It is not about the entire foot, it is about what part of the foot touches down and, of course, where it touches.

On the "toe touch" plays the only part of the foot that touches down is the toe, ergo, the "foot" is inbounds. But if you come down flat footed the entire foot must be inbounds even though the toe touches down inbounds before the heel touches down OOB.

All Johnson had to do is spring off the foot touch, it's a touchdown, no need for heel to come down, of course this takes Intelligence, which is sorely lacking
