Kid plays his best when the lights are brightest too. Comes up huge in big games and in big moments. That's something all good QBs do and he's got that goin for him for sure.

He's been good all year. He's not the best passer, but his deep ball is on the money. some of those balls couldn't be more perfect.

For those to even comment "it's his to lose"...there is no way this is going to happen. We never went into Woodson's Sr season lamenting it was his to lose, or JLO, etc..

1. Johnson put up the best deep ball at UK ever. Better than Couch, JLO or Woodson. He is dead on putting air under it, hardly ever overthrows the WR, on side line routes...keeps it in play, etc..
2. His legs give Boom/Benny extra space on read options with his threat to run it.
3. Very decisive when he tucks the ball and makes first down with his feet

All year long, he's been very off on short balls. Today he looked really good on short stuff finally. He's also been Mr. Fumble but last 3 games...very clean in that regard. All in all, I have no idea why we'd consider any further competition at QB.
Well, JLo took hits better. [banana]

Stephen Johnson must lose the job. It is his. He might manage it even in the off season, but he does not have to "earn it" all over again. He must lose it before someone else will possess it. Kid is just a winner.

If I was SJ I wouldn't want to be named the starter.

Most posters here would immediately start rooting for his backup.

We need to quit saying we have the best receivers in the league. Of the best secondary. What they are on paper doesn't matter if they don't bring it every game. Johnson would have had a lot more live this year of we could catch the ball. He still need to lower those mid range passes, but he has played well. Can't say that most games for our receivers. But I see each game as a new season. I figured we had a good chance as any to win today. New game. Didn't care about the last week.

Lol....the best player on the team is always the backup. Many were calling for How's red shirt to be pulled about two games ago.
I like what this kid brings in toughness and grit.
IF he can continue to improve leading into this bowl (incredible) and the off season, he's gonna be tough to beat out. So was Barker until he got hurt.
I wouldn't be shocked if we never see Drew in UK Blue again. He's going to be way behind physically and out of sync with that all important offensive line.

I have seen enough sample size to know Barker is not that much better than Johnson, he could not beat out Towles who was not a very good QB, Barker IMO lost the SO MIss game with his int and fumble. We win that by 3 scores with no turnover and win by 10 with just one TO. I have seen enough to know he is not that gifted in terms of spinning the ball like we all thought when he came in.

He's just got that intangible it factor. WR's definitely atwpped up their game today and made catches that they should/could have been making all season.

The best thing is we're relatively young across the board and growing. The Stoops train is picking up steam.

Better yet the team wants to play for him.
I think that is the most important thing. The coaches and kids want to play for him. Marrow tweeted out to BBN that SJ is their guy and we need to rally around the kid. Pretty much affirming his place.

THIS....He has the "It Factor" as a QB. He doesn't panic...He has poise.

Towles didn't have that....Barker didn't have that from what I saw....

Johnson was cool as a cucumber from the second he first took the field as QB.

Ehhhh that's a mighty small sample size you're judging
I agree. SJ has a lot of shortcomings that he's in the process of overcoming, but he just seems to be a winner.

Barker was the better QB when the season began and looked good before he was hurt.

The injury forced Gran to amp up the running game which ended up being a blessing in disguise. Barker would have given us a better shot against Ga and UT. But ... SJ was lights out today and appears to have more upside to his game.

I'm not saying SJ didn't look great today, but to dismiss DB as a non competitor is a stretch

Totally agree that competition is good for both players. Some want SJ to be announced as starter in the preseason. Other schools (Ala was playing 2 QBs this year when season began) have quarterback competitions and I don't see any reason why we shouldn't. However, it doesn't appear DB will get any playing time in the spring. This gives SJ lots of reps in Spring then a Fall competition.

I'm just saying I expect SJ to win the competition. He'll be in upper half of conference QB's if he develops a short to mid range game and corrects some mechanic flaws.

Spot on. He is sensational throwing deep and is arm is way above average. The other thing is he's obviously a smart guy, who's humble and wants to improve. I've listened to several of his interviews and he impresses me with his intelligence.
