Clemson to the SEC is a GOOD thing for Gamecocks football

Numerous ones have agreed already if were to read above.

True. And I'll go a step further. Not that the SEC would care overmuch, but the worst case scenario for us is if the sec doesn't take clemson and they end up in the b10., imo.

Then they get loads of cash and a significantly easier path to the playoffs. Not as easy as the acc, but they would need to finish what, top 3 or 4 in a 12 team playoff in the b10? That is supremely doable for them right now.

I am assuming them being in the b10 means the acc is pretty much pillaged and there are only 2, maybe 3 viable conferences to fill the 12 slots.

And, lol, and how is not "reading between the lines" to say that letting them in the SEC would hurt our recruiting against them. There is simply no support for this argument.
I second what 18IsTheMan is putting down. He’s got them most logical line of thinking in my eyes. Some kids just want to play in the sec period.

I'd like a do-over on my answer please.....

I don't care about the $$ or the arguments of prestige or this program being hurt and that program gaining advantage, etc....

I live for college football each season. All of it. So hand me that magic wand and let me be in control for a moment.
1) OU and TX are banished. You're out. You have no business in the SEC anyway.
2) Mizzou and A&M, you're out. Banished. You have no business in the SEC anyway.

That frees up 4 teams to be added to replace the banished, and here's my picks:

FSU, Miami Hurricanes, Georgia Tech, Clemson, and East Carolina. (I know that's 5, but I'm kicking Vandy out too)

First of all, think about it - the SEC would virtually *OWN* the hottest rivalries. FSU-Miami. Clem - SC, Ga. Tech - UGA, Along with all the others we already have in the SEC.

IDK why about ECU ~ With the revenue split $$$ they could and would upgrade their facilities quickly and I argue would be more competitive than Vandy week in, week out. And if you don't like my pick of ECU ~ how bout App. State? Same $$$$ / facility argument and they're already competitive.

Now as a pure college football fan, that line up would hands down be the best conference in America IMHO. Wishful thinking I guess.

Always better to have you biggest rival in your conference - for all sports. It makes the rivalry mean more. 😁

I would think that the BIG will make its next move before the Fall. I can't see them pussyfooting around beyond that. Then the SEC will respond, if not sooner.

Well you completely dismissed the last part of the OP, which is factually correct. The revenue and recruiting factors are drastically and grossly overblown by our fan base. Thus far, whatever revenue or recruiting benefit we have received from the SEC, it has made 0% impact on our rivalry with Clemson. Even so, whatever benefit they receive from revenue and recruiting, it would be more than offset by the fact that they would take multiple losses in the SEC each season. There just aren't any facts to support the revenue and recruiting argument. It's all assumption.

Our fans gripe year in and year out that Clemson gets an easy path to the playoffs. Join the SEC and that path vaporizes. Our fans also bemoan every year how our schedule is instantly tougher ever year b/c we have to play a full SEC slate PLUS Clemson. If they join the SEC, that disadvantage vaporizes as well.

It really levels the field for us in so many ways.

Disagree here. The SEC can be a significant play for us when a recruit is deciding between the two schools. All things being equal, a player is more likely to head to Clemson over USC for a variety of reasons - dedicated campus vs city sprawl, history/reputation, etc. We need to keep things unequal.

One good thing about the expanded playoffs is that they will be forced to beat at least probably 2-3 better teams than anyone they play during the season. So thus I don`t think they will get as far. Because of the inequity in scheduling. I hate the byes, because it could reward teams like them who play a weak schedule. Hopefully playoffs will go to 16 sooner than later and eliminate the byes. They will be unfair.

I still disagree. They've built a brand, and have garnered hardware. About the only thing we have over them ATM is the prestige of being in the SEC and the draw for recruiting that brings. Allow them in, and their recruiting gets even better - they get more blue-chips, and climb the SEC ladder, stepping on our faces as they go past. Now, hopefully CSB is able to keep that from happening, but even with their hard work and persistence, I'd say the odds of that occurring are still about 50/50. In the last 10yrs, cu has proven they can beat Bama, LSU, Georgia..... I think it a little naïve to believe they'd come in to the SEC and fall on their faces.
I agree, if they get in the SEC it is more prestigious for the little darlings and will help their recruiting even more. While they may have a harder time winning as much, they will also reap the recruiting rewards from being in the SEC and the money they would get with the money they get from their fanbase could lead to bigger projects for them. If the powers that be look after the SEC and Big Ten their importance on the national scene will start to dwindle as their finances start to drag staying in the ACC.

The talking point of how much of a draw playing in the SEC is for Carolina recruiting over cLemson is seriously overblown. We have been in the SEC for over 30 years and how much has it helped??

None. It's a myth that exists only inside the imaginations of a subset of Gamecock fans.

Clemson's win % over us prior to us joining the SEC and after we joined the SEC is virtually the same.

Disagree. While it would help with our scheduling the trade-off would be awful. Whether they would admit it or not they would love to be in the SEC(except their schedule would be tough for a change). They would make so much more $$$ and we would lose the one huge recruiting advantage we have by being in the SEC. We cannot help them like that especially when the demise, or further weakening, of the ACC is possible if FSU and perhaps others leave.
The school would love the $$$. The fans would dislike the losses. From what I read, the conference has FSU TV rights locked in until 2036 and they could not be televised if they leave unless there was a vote by the other member institutions to allow a clean break. My guess is their grumbling will spread to other schools and there will eventually be a consensus among them to dissolve.

From a CBS Sports article on the ACC GOR situation:

"Texas and Oklahoma ultimately got out of the Big 12 grant of rights agreement a year early, but it cost them a combined $100 million. The difference is the ACC's deal has 13 years remaining. There is no out clause that is apparent. Lawyers at ACC schools have been poring over the language unable to find one as of yet.

FSU's general counsel stated that exit fees alone would be $120 million. That's not counting breaking the grant of rights. That anchor means the ACC owns the schools' media rights until 2036. And 13 years is 13 years.

The best way to get out of a grant of rights? There isn't an easy one with that much term left on the deal. It would likely take a protracted legal battle that could cost at least three times the exit fee on its own."
