Clocks and Bombs

Almost every day now I see something that really makes me wonder about the seeming lack of intelligence in this country. Here's a kid that at 14 is intelligent enough to build his own alarm clock. He's proud enough to take it to school to show his STEM class. Unfortunately the beeper goes off during English class, and he is handcuffed, arrested, and treated like a terrorist because not only his English teacher, but his Principal and at least four police officers can't tell a clock from a bomb.

Note to any teachers/police officers who may read this. Bombs typical have, I don't know, maybe some explosive device and something to detonate it, don't you think? Good Lord, have we really gotten that stupid as a country?

If you have to ask that, FtWorthCat....you're one of the stupids. No offense.

Well that was a rhetorical question. Hopefully that is something an English teacher would understand.

But on the bright side, at least there are some 14-year-old kids smart enough to make their own alarm clock.

Kind of reminds of the lyrics from that old Rush song, "Ignorance and prejudice and fear walk hand in hand."

Looks like a pretty solid clock to me, the base of it is strong.

Lolllll

So they actually arrested this kid and took him to the station? I assume it's all worked out now?

And Barry invited him to the White House. Lollll

Nobody makes their own alarm clock. You buy a new one every couple years for 10 bucks at Walmart. It's the American way.

Looks like a bomb if you live in the world of MacGyver. Only thing missing are red, blue and white wires that you need to decide on which to cut.

Sure he was profiled, big time. His family is going to have so much settlement money they can buy Big Ben. However, this sounds exactly like some **** an evil scientist would say,

"Here in high school, none of the teachers know what I can do," Ahmed told the paper while he soldered metal and played around with a cable."

You think the Secret Service won't check that thing inside and out before letting it near Obama? Of course they will. But those stupid high school teachers shouldn't worry about it, right? BS. This whole story is an overblown media story, IMO.

"We attempted to question the juvenile about what it was and he would simply only say it was a clock." said James McLellan, Irving Police."

Maybe because it was a clock?

The amount of functioning brain cells of every adult involved in this travesty? 5? 6?

Ok lets say worst case scenario. You get the clock and check it. You dont need to handcuff him for any reason. Does he look like a threat to anyone?

Just a complete embarrassment all the way around. Good news is the kid will benefit greatly.

you can't hide plastic explosives inside a clock?

The people at the school are screwed. Overreact and get crucified. Miss the next Tsarnaev and get crucified.

I have no idea what said clock looked like but I think a reasonable person would ask if he'd have gotten kicked off a plane for it. If the answer is yes, then what exactly are the people at the school supposed to do?

And total shock at Barry tweeting an invite.

$20 days they let him waltz right in, sans pat down.

You ever seen Godfinger. They let him right on the plane to see the president - no questions asked!

He meant before this happened, geez

I love people claiming "overreacting". The way the media was spinning it, I thought it was some ordinary clock. This kid knew exactly what he was doing. I don't know if it was attention or what, but he wanted it to look like a suitcase bomb and the was able to play whatever "card" he could.

Quit defending him. He wanted to get some attention/got put in cuffs. Most parents with a brain would realize this wasn't a smart idea

Every teacher I know said they'd did the exact thing and you can't blame them

I personally don't think it's some racist ploy that liberals are melting down about...I think it's because of the insane zero tolerance policies schools have

Maybe ... if they are still sober and not in a big hurry to get back to the hookers.

Would probably have gotten an invite if it had been a bomb.

.

You act like there isn't another option other than arresting the kid at school or completely looking the other way.

School authorities had plenty of choices they could have made to ensure the safety of their students and not end up as a headline in national news. They ignored those and decided to have him arrested and suspended.

I have no idea what said clock looked like but I think a reasonable person would ask if he'd have gotten kicked off a plane for it. If the answer is yes, then what exactly are the people at the school supposed to do?
.

Well, they can take the clock to the front office and have it investigated without suspending and arresting the kid. That's one rather obvious choice.

Other items that should get kids arrested if they bring to school using your logic of allowable carry-on items :

I hope Ahmed isn't on the LAX squad.

In summary, the school officials had many options, they just chose the dumbest one.
