Close loss means nothing

Doesn't mean we're close to being a good team. We're still barreling towards a humiliating 1-7 record in conference play and a 4-win season. Doesn't matter how we get there.

I know as a coach you have to look for things from the game that you can build on, but as a fan a loss is a loss is a loss. If I had 100 hands, I couldn't count the number of times in our program's history when we showed some promise in a close loss to a good team and then instantly regressed.

I know we all talk about the offense and want that part of the football program improved. But, don't be surprised if Clayton White is offered a Head Coaching job for the 2026 season. I hope not, for OUR sake. But I won't be surprised.

100%. I didn't watch and I'm so glad I didn't. Wife had it on so I sat outside on the porch. Four people texted me about it but I knew it was going to be a letdown like always. Even if we won, it wouldn't mean anything.

I was out. Came home and turned the game on. First play I saw was Bama converting a 3rd and 20 like it was nothing. Had stuff to do so I turned it off and went about my business.

I get it. I've been a fan for 50+ years, but as heartbreaking as this game was it was fun to watch. Hope we are competitive the rest of the year.

I guess. I understand the sentiment. But I've gotten to the point where if we can't win, I just as soon get blown out than to be setup for yet another let down.

I wasn’t planning to watch, but when I came inside at 5:15, the tv had been paused on the channel for our game. I watched the very end of the game before ours, and then watched our whole game, being able to ffwd through timeouts and commercials (and halftime).

This game was the best we’ve played all year. The D was great (except for the last 5min, when unfortunately, it mattered most).
The offense had a pulse . Still couldn’t finish drives, but looked a lot better. I thought the OL was much better - maybe Elliott is making some small strides with that group?

About the only thing we have to look forward to on this season is the possibility of beating clemson. IF, IF we play like we did tonight, we will beat the tiggers. Thats the only goal left, but it attainable.

So yes, a close loss is still a loss. But this game gave me a sliver of hope…… I hate that it did - LOL, but it did.

It was the most Carolina way to lose you could imagine. How the f*** do you fumble the ball there? Why didn't we just run the ball up the middle with Fuller?

Personally, if I were as miserable as you seem to be over this team in EVERY SINGLE POST, I would probably find another team to root for...
Should he not be miserable? Would you rather he be fine with how we play? Tell us, how should we feel? The way YOU feel? If not, we’re miserable? Get a life.

After the RB fumbled the ball up into the air and the Bama DB caught on the run and returned it for a TD. I looked at my wife and said "most South Carolina play ever." And turned the game off. People say the NFL is scripted every year, well it ain't as scripted as the SEC! Saw the final script early on this one!

Oh... It sucks... Don't get me wrong, but I don't get on this forum every 20 minutes boiling in my emotion like a woman to complain about how terrible the world is because of a football game... And you tell me I should get a life?

Say your piece and move along. He's been beating a dead horse for months.

I was thinking the same thing this morning. Defense played magnificently until the very end. Good gameplan, good adjustments and good execution. All hallmarks of good coaching. Clayton may not get a HC gig, but I bet he won't be DC for the Gamecocks next year.

Just think of it as venting, and it makes a lot more sense.

He is just talking about a game/program on a sports board meant for such things. Now if he was talking about his job, wife, neighbor, etc, that's another thing.

Man, if he complained about his wife that much, I'd be worried. :)

Oh, the horror of a dude doing message board things on a message board.

Apparently our coaches are still having trouble grasping that Fuller is our best back…..
I just remember that one third down play when he got hit in the backfield and kept his legs turning and got the first down. Faison would have taken a four yard loss on that play. These coaches just don't seem to have any concept of how to utilize their best players

Ask Beams if he’s coached like an $8MM coach. Then ask for a refund.
Of course he won't refund any of that money. But, make no mistake about it. Beamer will be on the hot seat next season. I know it. You know it. He knows it.

He was hired the same year as Josh Heupel at Tennessee. This is what was written about Heupel when he was hired by the Vols:

"Heupel is not going to turn around the Vols overnight. It's going to take some time. Fans are going to have to be extremely patient with Heupel. He's in the toughest spot yet for a UT coach." (NOTE: Tennessee had lost a great number of players to the portal right before Heupel was hired).

What has Heupel done since becoming Tennessee's Head Coach? 43-17 overall record and 23-14 in the SEC, 2 Top 10 finishes and 1 Top 20 finish prior to this season. They went into yesterday's game ranked 17th in the nation. Since Year One, Heupel has won 7 games, 11, 9 ,10 and is currently 6-2. NO ONE should be surprised at Heupel's success at Tennessee. He was a proven successful winner as a Head Coach prior to his hire. At UCF, he compiled a 28-8 record, one Top 15 and one Top 25 finish.

Who here is complaining about the world? I believe most people are keeping their criticisms pretty well focused on the football team.

"Close" counts in horse shoes and hand grenades, not football games.

Meh; I don't know about that. Ask the recruits that we hosted yesterday about that.

Pro tip: they play football; they don't experience the game by posting their hurt feelings on message boards.
I can't imagine many offense recruits would have watched and been excited to play in our offense.

Defensive players, maybe.

I love my wife! Even in spite of the misery that gamecock sports injects into the small slice of my life that it occupies.
Well, this was supposed to say "I love my life." Second sentence probably doesn't make much sense.

FWIW, I also love my wife. And my kids. They are what make it easy not to watch our games and do other things instead.

Anti-meh: Recruits are like any other human beings: in the final analysis, they look at the total picture, not 8.33% of it.

Free tip: Most recruits have intelligence. They know the difference between a one-night stand (in this case, afternoon-stand) and a marriage.

Oh, and if you think my feelings were hurt by a football game loss, you know absolutely nothing about me. Football is a miniscule part of my life; maybe not yours though.

That is hilarious

I would not be shocked to see DC Clayton White elsewhere next season. His defense is ranked 41st out of 134 teams. Can you imagine where it would be ranked if we had a decent offense? Don't think that his work has not been noticed by others. I hope he stays. But, I don't always get what I want.

Could be a lot of fallout if Beamer doesn't hire a decent OC.
