With Davis’ signature sealed, the Bulldogs have turned their sights to shooting guard Andre Applewhite (6-4,
205) of Memphis Central. Applewhite visited MSU on Tuesday and is also
considering offers from Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State,
Missouri State and the College of Charleston.

I am glad we signed a point guard, but I don't see Applewhite being worth a scholarship, especially with Sword and Thomas already signed.
Must be tough trying to recruit against the likes of WKU and MTSU. I hope I am wrong and he is All-SEC, but I doubt it..

One note: Central High School has one of the three top football prospects in the state this coming year. Finally getting someone there might not be a bad thing. They had the top football prospect in Tennessee two years ago (Cam Clear) as well.

I'm just speculating based on what Ray has said about wanting a hard-working, fast paced, motion and man-to-man style of play. To me this means lots and lots of athletic players that can guard the perimeter and can also compete for rebounds.

If they can't play in the SEC, then don't sign them. He needs to get a JUCO PF/C or save the scholarships for next year's recruits.

leaving open roster spots is gross miss-management of your team. You fill the spots and then trim the fat if you want more guys next year. Gone are the days of guaranteeing a guy a 4 year scholarship. They are one year commitments by both sides. See Rodney Hood for the latest example. Any of the remaing 3 open spots that can be filled this year should know that it's only a one year scholarship. Both parties will sit down at the end of next year and either sign on for a 2nd year or part ways. So you get your open spots if you can sign a better player and you fill your roster for this upcoming season. It's a revolving door of players also known as NCAA basketball.

I think even if you had scholarships available, you were still subject to the limitations on how many people you could sign. Don't know what the current rule is, but if something similar is in place, it'd be much better to struggle through with the players we have and save scholarships for next year.

this but I haven't seen teams getting penalized for high turnover so until that is the case I think MSU is best served to play the same game all the players and top teams are playing. Does UK get penalized for having 15 one and dones in the last 5 years? No and maybe that's because going to the NBA doesn't penalize you but Moultrie and Sidney are leaving for pro ball so we shouldn't be penalized for them either. Do transfers penalize? I don't know but every other team is having transfers also so at this point I think the APR is just a scare tactic that isn't working. Seems to me the players (Rodney Hood) have all the power right now. If MSU makes the 13 scholarships more cutthroat I think in the long run there will be less turnover.
