I bet the market for Speedy Claxton is heating up, a shame as I think he'd be a good option for us next offseason. Related, Cruz Davis is going to make eight gagillion $$ this offseason.

Bobby Hurley at ASU is expected to be available. Will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Not so fast.... ASU just beat Kansas and if win at Iowa State they legit have a shot to get an at large bid.

Definitely a possibility
Not happening. Word is if they dont get Schertz, Calhoun or Hodgson it will be Sendek from Santa Clara. I think its going to be Schertz who seems like he is good but I really wanted Hodgson.

Sendek???? Wow..thats reaching for old school

And perhaps with Gonzaga leaving the WCC he might be enticed to stay at Santa Clara. Providence is as about an attractive job as BC

Why they dont just rehire Tim Welsh?

Rumor is Billy D's son would come as a coach in waiting with Sendek. Never a fan of that kind of thing. Think Sendek is a good fallback if you dont get top choice. Goodman has totally done a 180 on this job now so I'm optimistic they will get one of the top three. He's now saying its the best job right now.

Pitt season is over, rumor is that Capel is now over with them. Does Knight become a serious candidate? Then gets job and Francis goes with him? Certainly possible but I don’t understand why anyone would want Brandin Knight as a head coach (I know he played at Pitt, but that’s not a good enough reason to just hire someone), but to each his own I guess.

I recall you being very pro-Herb for RU back in 2016 - I was as well (in part because you were pretty persuasive about him). I've been interested in following him since and IMO he's only enhanced his reputation at Santa Clara. Not amazing, but certainly improved them significantly and looks like he's about to take them dancing for the first time in 30 years.

I'd also put Providence above BC as an opening - hoops is a bigger deal there and no competing with football for NIL resources. If Herb does wind up being the hire there, I get not being thrilled from a fan's perspective and wanting a higher-ceiling candidate, but I bet he'd make the place better like he has everywhere else. (Honestly...I still wouldn't hate him here either.)

I was

But perhaps he gets a raise and wants to stay out west and retire where Santa Clara could dominate in a post Gonzaga WCC

The issue now its 10 years later and i think Herb is in his mid 60s

Providence is a tough job and will get tougher going forward. They went with inexperienced guy last time so i guess experience might revive them

I was all in on Sendek when Jordan got the boot. Sendek was stupidly pushed out the door at NC State after making it to the big dance five straight years, and was successful at ASU. Frankly, hiring him at RU appeared to be a no-brainer in my eyes.

Herb is 63, so older than most carousel guys, but not disqualifying IMO - with more and more guys coaching into their 70s and still winning, I could see a lifer like him going another ~decade. I do see the appeal of just riding it out at Santa Clara though, now that he's got it rolling pretty well and has job security (especially since neither of his major conference HC gigs ended very well), but I imagine he might be tempted by one last shot at the big time.

I always wondered if his candidacy here (seemingly) never gaining traction was more a lack of interest on his part, or Hobbs'.

Why waa Capel ever gicnven an extenstion??? 1 ncaa in 8 years
I had just assumed his remaining contract was much less than $15M. That's about as crazy as Pike's contract given relative success, the school, etc.

According to a Jon Rothstein post, Air Force is expected hire Penn State assistant Joe Crispin as their new head men’s basketball coach. Crispin, a former standout at Penn State, has been on the Nittany Lions staff since 2023. Prior to that, he spent six seasons as the head coach at D3 Rowan

From Daily Dirt in the HoopsDirt site
>New Charlotte AD Kevin White has the search to replace Aaron Fearne moving at warp speed. Wes Miller is the hot name here right now. The former Cincinnati head coach played at North Carolina (2004-07), and spent ten seasons as the head coach at UNC Greensboro (2011-21) where he went 185-135. More on this one shorty.<
