Hubert Davis is OUT as North Carolina's coach. I've also been hearing Bill Self may retire due to health concerns and Mark Pope has not been up to Kentucky's standards..could be a very big offseason for coaching changes at blue bloods...

Someone on ESPN just mentioned Ben’s name as someone NC MIGHT be looking at. But he also added that NC normally hires coaches with ties to NC. Apparently, Davis’ salary was $3.85 million. At least, that’s what’s on line.

I know a guy whose brother is now the ISU President. He thinks TJ will be gone and ISU will not be in a position to match what NC can/will offer.

Not so sure about that.

apparently UNC's NIL is not all that great and money to pay players is what you need to succeed.

Vewy, vewy interesting speculation piece from Tar Heel country. TJ mentioned prominently in the Tier I watch list. Dusty May, too. Ben on Tier II.

Would not be surprised if UNC pursues either TJ or the Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd.

I agree. This was his dream job. He is an Iowan dude. He wants to leave a legacy at Iowa and I think he can.
I’m sure the ISU fans said the same about Hoiberg before he left for an NBA job that he wasn’t ready for. Money, and the opportunity to compete at the highest level, talks.

I’m hoping that Ben wants to stay and build something great here. We can pay him a big-ish salary to compete with other schools. But do we have the NIL budget to get the players he wants?

Ever since we started having success in the tournament, especially after Florida, there's been a big push by these loser Cyclown fans to get McCollum to leave Iowa. I genuinely believe they are scared of him.
Meh. If you want to be good very few recruits are Iowa kids.

I don’t think it matters much to either school besides the one game a year they play each other.

He’s done all he could do with ISU. if not for Jefferson’s injury, I would put them as a favorite to make the final 4 and they still have a strong chance without him. He is probably a better coach than Hoiberg.
Done all he could do? Coaching isn't a one season thing. Doing "it" means doing it year in and year out. Doing it in one place doesn't mean you will do it in another. We seemingly determine success as the last 2-3 years only

I think Ben moving 2 times in 2 years and his son being on our roster helps us mightily. He is an Iowan and a Hawkeye but definitely could see him considering a blue blood if what I mentioned above wasn't his current status.
Ben is not going anywhere.
Iowa will pony up when the time comes.
He's an Iowa guy and from day 1 it was his dream job.
Relax folks....

Discussed on Dan Patrick but UNC has the NIL. But similar to Fran last year lot of donors were going to keep their hands in their pocket if Davis stayed and NIL would’ve been lacking next year compared to this year if no changes were made.

but UNC has the $ as they alluded to shelling out $ for Belicheck. But they are a school who will invest much more into b-ball than most schools. Also doesn’t hurt UNC basketball has their prized alum Michael Jordan the billionaire and his jump man brand.

Yeah I was gonna say... A blue blood basketball school, I would be shocked if the NIL money was lacking.

I would agree that I don't think Ben is going anywhere - but that should never be assumed by the administration and they need to continue to be progressive about taking care of him and what he needs to be successful. The last thing you want is for him to feel taken for granted. That is when he will start looking.

Agree. If Ben has aspirations to coach in the NBA or at a blue blood, there's probably not much that can stop it from happening eventually. But I said the other day, if Ben ever leaves, make sure it isn't because of money. Pay the man.

He’s been in Iowa for 2 years. 1 at Drake and 1 year here. He was in Missouri for a long time. Now I think he probably stays but if any of those schools offer or reach out he would be crazy not to listen.

2 moves in 2 years of his family. I listened to him mentioning that in detail taking a toll.

The guy is one of us. He was born and raised in the state. He was a rabid Hawkeye fan. He attended Dr. Tom youth camps. He's said on multiple occasions that this is a destination job for him. His wife has said this is his dream job. I think the only way he leaves is if Beth would happen to leave and we brought in a jacka$$ AD that he just couldn't work for. Otherwise, I have no doubts that Beth will take care of him financially and he'll be here for 25+ years.

Rick knows ball lol.

“Yeah, if I was the North Carolina AD and I’m not, he’s far better at his job than I am, I would hire without question T.J. [Otzelberger] from Iowa State,” Pitino said.

No. 14 Iowa State defeated No. 15 St. John’s 83-82 on November 23 in the opening game of the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas. Pitino has great respect for Otzelberger, who will coach No. 2 Iowa State against No. 6 Tennessee Friday night in Chicago, where he will no doubt be asked about the North Carolina opening.

“He has a small buyout [$4 million], he is a great person, he is a great coach and he would do an unbelievable job at North Carolina,” Pitino said.

You realize DanPom is a troll account, right?

Every time there was a head football coach opening he tweeted that the school has targeted Iowa State's Matt Campbell, there is mutual interest and a deal could happen fast. He finally got it right when Matt took the Penn State job.

Now he's doing the same thing, saying North Carolina has targeted Iowa State's TJ Otzelberger, there is mutal interest and a deal will move fast.

And if Kansas opens up? Same thing will happen.

Well, you are the board drunk waddling over from the Off Topic forum, so your opinion isn't worth jack sheet. After all, you are the nut job who thinks Kirk Ferentz & CJ Beathard are Nazis & racists simply because they vote Republican.

Chishawk1425 was your handle on Iowa Rivals and you never did answer if .14 and .25 stood for what you blew during 2 different stops.

As @Hawkman98 (a LEO) famously said about you, "No wonder Chis hates law enforcement so much."

IOWA/Beth can only give Ben so much of the $20.5M in revenue sharing. Boosters have to fill in the rest. Hopefully they will so that Ben can be successful in Iowa City for a long time.

But Ben is like all of us; never say never.
