When "Checking the boxes" this would include-Someone non-Iowa affiliated, someone with a contrasting style... what else am I missing?
Those are 2 of the big ones. My thinking is that he is Iowa affiliated and does have a similar mindset as the Brands, so I believe it’s somebody else if there is truth to this.

Given the LIV4GOD edit on his post, maybe there are some legs to this...

Mike Kemerer I hope. I will do some digging today.
Not a Hawk fan here, but a huge Kemerer fan. He would be an excellent hire as he does check on the boxes. Classy, well-spoken kid who has experience with several different coaching environments stretching back to his youth days, very technically proficient, etc. He had to deal with injuries and some all-timers, but he had multiple NC talent for sure.

Nolf makes the most sense to me if this new hire is true. He checks all the boxes: offensive/creative, great scrambler, middleweight, outside the coaching tree, and young enough to wrestle in the room.
Nolf was an assassin on the mat, too. Despite his boy next door look, he was ruthless out there, but not dirty. Like a Brands-type wrestler in terms of aggression, but a deceptive demeanor.

I still have Ed Ruth on top of my Penn State folk style pantheon, but Nolf was really close to my favorite. Total ***-kicker

I'd be shocked if any assistant coaches are swapped out for new assistant coaches unless someone resigns (Telford)?

I'd also be shocked if a new assistant coach would join the staff who previously had no ties to Iowa? Why would they leave their current role for a job that will last exactly 1 year as TNT will be let go after next season after Beth has finally had enough of this mediocre product being out out there by Tom and Terry?

But I thought that was gonna happen this year 😂

Seriously? You must be living on the dark side of the moon.
Why? You opposed to the combination I suggested, or in favor but just sure it can't happen? If the former, perhaps you're on the dark side of the moon. If the latter, well, I said I'd love to find a way to make it happen, not that I was sure it would. And I explained my thoughts if EITHER a new stud coach (as Asst. in waiting or as HC with TnT moved to HWC) or TnT were unwilling to work with the other - eliminate any/all of the unwilling (stubborn/arrogant) parties from further coaching consideration, be that TnT, JB, Nolf, etc.

If the reason is that EITHER TnT and/or (JB, Nolf, or any other potential HC) are unwilling to work together, and it's not just because of some truly deep/real bad personal blood, then my response is simple. I don't want ANY close-minded stubborn individual on staff. Not a good leadership trait, find someone who has humility, much more apt to stay relevant over the long haul.

You can’t have a different guy than the Iowa HC be responsible for the HWC and there’s no realistic scenario where Brands is ousted from that job and suddenly going to work for the new Iowa HC. Not only just personally but it also creates massive leadership dynamic issues in the room. Huge problems.

Yes but that would mean an interview and the candidate being on campus. No one has been on campus that I have heard of

Though the post is about an assistant coach making this moot, your head is buried in the sand if you think this is how it really works these days, in many cases. And if you are talking about an assistant hire then I don’t know what the level is after head in sand, but you’d be squarely in it.

1. You’re not following the thread.
2. Because there are maybe 30 major assistant coach jobs in the entire country.

Be my guess too. M* wouldn't be replaced so Steve is coming in to help his buddies try to save their jobs for a year plus his boy is coming. Its a good move but doesn't check all my boxes. Good to have hm around Ben too. About as good as Tom could do considering he wasn't going anywhere outside of a short short list because of his control issues.

So yeah its probably 100% done and Telford has said he is moving on and Beth could interview by phone and grant Tom's request and still not really cause any disruption with next week
When did Telford say that? I got a soft spot for him because Be was my group counselor both summers I went to Iowa wrestling camps

Not sure but I read it on here that someone said Telford is choosing not to come back next season so therefore it made enough sense in my head to move it into the fact side of my brain.

But joking aside. A lot of these 3rd assistants move on to careers that pay a lot better. Like Kurt Backess is a Mortgage Loan Officer in Ankeny nowadays doing just fine.

It also became fact in my brain that Mocco may want to be close to his son and he is best buddies with Terry so it "checks boxes" that may or may not exist.

Typically? Sure. Ok. But you made it sound like a box that’s required to be checked which is less true than ever these days. It isn’t a requirement

<He is saying they've a new hire he's talking about an assistant>>

Every staff right now is focused on Natty's. I doubt they have even given staff changes a minute of thought.Tom said in his interview he will evaluate after the season.

If any hire was being discussed it ,it could be HWC , but I really doubt it ,again until after season.

Tom is loyal to a fault unless your name is Wes Hand or Mike Zadick.

Or, Beth could go offsite to the candidate
Tom is doing the hiring but that hasn't been done yet officially. Bob is leaving on his own accord, he isn't being forced out. He makes very little money so this will be interesting to see who replaces him.

Absolutely FALSE, his has a small university salary with great benefits, and HWC pays him an even better salary according to Beatty"

He makes more then a lot of #2,#3 assistants at most schools
