Neither do most of the recent Iowa teams. He sure wouldn’t fit the Iowa style.
It's not just that JB is a "big name" its that the guy is a psycho competitor and would be a great coach. Yes, JB was a great athlete but the thing that made him an all timer was his work ethic and will to win. That 100% translates to coaching. They think just because they have a "big name" they can recruit, coach, develop, and raise funds lmao
It worked on David Taylor. Who thought 2 years ago he would leave what he had built in Central PA. If you want to truly compete in the next 5 years, you swallow your corn and pay him whatever it takes.Come on Corby.
It would literally take a Iowa to pull him away from NJ. Does he want to leave? is that his plan? no and no. But IF a blue blood called, paid him enough and gave him money for an RTC, he's taking it.
2022 right? At that time next year's recruits were 11, 12, 13 years old, not influential years at all in a young adults life.HS kids today are looking up to Jax and Spencer and guys like that. When was Burroughs last world medal? Just not sure his name holds the weight you think it does with the HS kids.
Kids attention spans aren't long at all today. They're on to the next guy who's still winning. Not saying kids don't like him but I don't think he currently has that wow factor. DT came back to compete again after he took the job so it would help recruiting and put him back in the competition spotlight2022 right? Who do you think has the best combo of wow factor and coaching ability and would be a realistic candidate?Kids attention spans aren't long at all today. My opinion is that's a few years away and so much can change between now and then so naming that guy now for a position years down the road is tough.Who do you think has the best combo of wow factor and coaching ability and would be a realistic candidate?
Ah but then you miss out on all the message board fun and angst over things that won’t happen…My opinion is that's a few years away and so much can change between now and then so naming that guy now for a position years down the road is tough.
I coach a high school wrestling team & JB is very relevant and would have a lot of name appeal if he decided to be a D1 coach.Kids attention spans aren't long at all today. They're on to the next guy who's still winning. Not saying kids don't like him but I don't think he currently has that wow factor. DT came back to compete again after he took the job so it would help recruiting and put him back in the competition spotlight
its a message board. Why are you here???My opinion is that's a few years away and so much can change between now and then so naming that guy now for a position years down the road is tough.

If it's a few years away then the kids will have forgotten whoever it is by then.My opinion is that's a few years away and so much can change between now and then so naming that guy now for a position years down the road is tough.
You gotta ignore Corby and MSU occasionally or more often than not. From time to time regardless of what’s been said they will paint a picture that better serves their message vice responding to what the original poster said. Perception management 101 but I’m sure they’re good guys.I don’t think anyone could do it. Literally just JB with a huge maybe on Kyle Dake so that’s is a complete misrepresentation.
I don’t have anything left to say to you on the matter because we look at things a lot differently. I’ll be here in a year or two so we can revisit this.

It’s like he has some kind of (hidden?) motivation to maintain the current status quo.Absolutely laughable. Burroughs is iconic and relevant. He's the most decorated US wrestler of all time and earned his last gold just a few years ago. He continues to be visible in the sport. There isn't a single high level D1 recruit who doesn't know exactly who he is. And you believe they're thinking "6 worlds and Olympic gold? Meh...not impressed"? That's hilarious.
You like/prefer a coach with more experience. Just say it. It is a completely respectable position. No need to continually lie to yourself and then try to get other people to believe you. It has gotten beyond weird.
He’s only doing well because of James Franklin.Holy Crap dude if you did not catch that sarcasm then I can't help you.
First time Im saying this and there is no sarcasm in this statement at all!
If the Entire Iowa staff is out after next season my first and only call is Tony Robie! He made 210k last year and his contract goes till 2028, He would have an off the record offer of 500k right now to take over after next season. This offer would also include top salaries for his pick of assistant coaches, with a strong suggestion that the university would like Mike Kemerer as part of his staff.
Corby, you’re the one who has open comms with the management; you tell us what Beth said.Did she tell you that? Let me guess because Ferentz son went is why you think this
I’d be good with Robie as long as he brings his recruits.Tony Robie, Mike Grey are getting recruits. Rob Kohl could get recruits.
I do believe you’re full of it once again Corby. I think VA Tech’s coach has even more name recognition than your Columbia coach. You try to drive people to your desired outcome…what a dick thing to do. It’s like you want Iowa to fail…Not enough name recognition for these people it's actually hilarious. They want the name. Those 3 have results not a chance need a name with zero results what are you stupid
.
Good! If you’re not an Iowa fan then go pester the PSU guys for a couple years and tell them how stupid they were for hiring an untested Cael as their coach. You suck!Yes it is a message board and people keep commenting about what I have to say so obviously I'm gonna respond it is a message board and all remember. When people tell me what I should or shouldn't think I tend to did the same that's how it works. Also you ever heard of devils advocate. And correct I'm not actually an Iowa fan I'm a fan of wrestling and individuals. I'm not a fan of any one team
Bingo my friend. In essence he’s an Iowa hating d*ckhead. It’s like he has some kind of (hidden?) motivation to maintain the current status quo.
To talk wrestling what about youits a message board. Why are you here???
It's beyond weird that we don't agree? Sounds like a you problem. Remember when we would say we can agree to disagree the good ole days. Now I'm lying to myself you say yet I'm being weirdAbsolutely laughable. Burroughs is iconic and relevant. Yep because they pay me and I mentor Morningstar according to theIt’s like he has some kind of (hidden?) motivation to maintain the current status quo.

Now I hate IowaBingo my friend. In essence he’s an Iowa hating d*ckhead.
Jfc I was a joking about you being his mentor..Yep because they pay me and I mentor Morningstar according to thes and conspiracy lovers. Then others say I don't know anything or anyone and make stuff up.
Hard to follow the cesspool
JB doesn’t have the “wow factor”? This might be the worst wrestling take I’ve seen on the new board, and we’ve got people suggesting Metcalf as HC.Kids attention spans aren't long at all today. They're on to the next guy who's still winning. Not saying kids don't like him but I don't think he currently has that wow factor. Who tf is Cael?for like 6 years you guys have been throwing out names that don't make sense to me and i couldn't understand it.
i thought it was as simple as thinking "Awesome Wrestler = Awesome Coach"
but it really goes back to your fallacy that Cael isn't a difference-making coach in the room.
there's been 100 threads on this board with a thesis that contended PSU's success was merely recruiting.
then David went to OKST and raised their profile (with great recruits) in year 1 & 2, which was good evidence to support your position.
but that doesn't make it true.
Cael recruits well AND elevates his guys thru development and a number of other things.
David seems to be doing it as well but it's early.
Some of the names you've been throwing out over the years....i just don't have confidence they could do the same. There are guys out there that can. Some of them are the 'big names'. Some aren't.
If he ever becomes a coach I guess we will see. This has been beat to death enough I'm done talking about it .JB doesn’t have the “wow factor”? This might be the worst wrestling take I’ve seen on the new board, and we’ve got people suggesting Metcalf as HC.
First its Carl... Second, its a message board. names will always be thrown around. Give us the names you would go after or sit this one out.for like 6 years you guys have been throwing out names that don't make sense to me and i couldn't understand it.

Yes you like Tom because the game has seemingly passed him by and you hate Iowa which is why Tom staying or Iowa hiring a less than stud coach is always your desired COA. Please go bother PSU or Okie…they need some Corby and MSU love as much as we do.Now I hate IowaI thought I was wanting Tom to stay because I benefit from it. Now I'm so confused

People pushing JB and Nolf for the most part…while you’re pushing your 3rd grade science teacher while telling everyone else they don’t know sh*t because TNT seek guidance from you from time to time. LOLI try to drive people to my outcomehave you read this thread it's a bunch of people pushing Burroughs and won't stop until everyone agrees you know outcome and all
Wanting Tom to stay and hating Iowa really are not mutually exclusive. Both equal Iowa just being ok which is a win/win for all Iowa haters. It is the safest path and I absolutely understand the logic of not hiring an unknown so as to avoid a substantial decline in the program rather quickly, but I think many true Iowa loyalists are willing to take the risk. I brought up Pritzlaff earlier but you said he would never take the job. He is doing the most with the least imo. You told us (good info) that he didn't even have to move to take the job when he left Rutgers. I think he would be a great hire! Now I hate IowaI thought I was wanting Tom to stay because I benefit from it. Now I'm so confused
