I agree. He is proving to be a coaching genius. He is getting his guys to win the tough matches and get the upsets that people thought were impossible. I would way he has both wings of the bird. Coaching genius and the ability to recruit.
I do not think being able to spot talent is the weak spot of the top coaches. Willy is great at it and is in the information business, but dow anyone really think cael, TnT, and DT need Wilie telling them who is great. I think looking at the 17U/20U world team would give you a pretty good idea of who to recruit.I have always thought Willie would be great in some sort of recruiting advisory role. Say what you want about him, but the guy is very connected in the high school wrestling world and is a great ranker and just has an eye for spotting talent in recruits. Laugh all you want, but he would help Iowa dramatically in recruiting imo. He might be making enough money in social media to not want to be tied to any one program to unless it was Nebby
Getting them to your school is the tough part. Every now and then there is a dark horse that comes out of no where to be a superstar in college, but they are few and far between.
Both matter. Gabe was 3 places ahead of Barr on the big board and look at them now. Everybody knew Vega would be good, but nobody understood that he would be this good with perhaps the exception of DT who went to work instantly to flip he and Rob. They both win titles as true freshmen. DT can recruit and develop talent. Cael 2.0
Before Bobby goes I’d like to shout him out for having 197-285 AA two years in a row with a National championship and an unexpected AA wrestling up two weights.

. NGL, 2025 kicked my family and I's ***. Got rode like a rented mule . So far, things are looking up. Going to have a nephew graduate from Iowa and a niece from Arizona...the first in their families to do it. My wife and I did but had to do it the hard way. So we get to go to Iowa's graduation on a Thursday, fly down to Tucson on a Friday for a Saturday graduation. Very proud of both of them. Also had one win a state title here in Iowa and going down to Vegas to see him in U17s.
you must not know Carl personally. he is a dogshit person. ask his best friend. he is in prison though and i am not allowed to say why on this board.
Tom was presented with a fund raising opportunity a few years ago and his response was not how do we go about it and how can I help, it was simply go do it then.
what i think, and what i've always thought was that Tom and Terry can coach their asses off.
the problem, imo, has been the changing landscape. it's no longer a toughness contest, and the kids are as whimsical and pampered as ever. TNT needed to adjust to that.
for the first time in a long time Iowa hit their marks or surpassed them) at NCAA's. so perhaps they've started to make the adjustments.
i've had a pretty contentious relationship with TNT. 100% loved them at times, 100% were pissed off at them. probably shot my mouth off more than i should have.
but i'm sincerely proud and happy for them for this performance.

This is agree with more than anything. It was obvious with Williams and Bailey but Bailey seemed to start to get it but we will see. His hands looked pretty effed on his Instagram post. But tough coaching seemed to help some like Buchanan and Caliendo although they were already good wrestlers.
I wouls like to know more about why we're you pissed at them at times? You get into arguments? Did you ever settle it by wrestling them?

By everything I have heard, Jaggers is more fit for the job and already is the Associate Head Coach. I am not arguing the Stieber doesn’t have a bit more “star power”, but I am not sure how it would go if Jaggers got passed over for Stieber….
I can't imagine they just hand the keys over without shooting for a bigger name. They are one of the top coaching spots see if you can buy back Kyle Snyder.
