Freeze is delusional enough to think he's done nothing wrong and that he's the victim of unjust persecution.
The problem is everyone is paying now, and without that being exclusive to him, Freeze is very pedestrian because he’s an avg to below avg field coachThere is so much on Auburn being the little brother to Bama Cohen will have to cut corners to keep his job.
So game day operations and general fan experience were trending up in your opinion with him at AD?Outside of Auburn….
I still say Cohen was simply a scapegoat for our fans frustration with NIL. He said early what we all knew and still know….NIL is not good for MSU. We have never been great at fundraising.
Was he best for our AD going forward? We will never know. I have confidence he’d have dealt with Lemonis and got us a good coach, so let’s move beyond baseball. I do think he’d have kept trying to make us ‘different’ instead of hiring buddies and trying to spend our way to football success.
But either way, we’re here now, he’s not. We both have to live with our decisions.

I’m sure the current AD has nothing to do with general increase in fundraising that we have had in the last 2 years.
How good of buddies could Selmon and Lebby be? Their tenure in Oklahoma overlapped for 1 year. And Selmon’s title was Deputy AD for external engagement and advancement. I doubt he was spending much time hanging out with the offensive coordinator.
It just really sounds like you are reaching to have a hard on for Cohen and despising Selmon.
Most likely the football hire sucked, most do.
In hindsight, who could we have realistically hired that would have us turned around already? We are at this ****** point where we need wins to show promise to get better players, but we need better players to get those wins. Still no excuse for losing to Toledo. (Hence the most likely the football hire sucked comment.)

Blah blah. Our fundraising got better because our donors slowly figured out it was either pay or go home. We always figure out things slowly. So game day operations and general fan experience were trending up in your opinion with him at AD?

I agree with all of this as far as the facts of what happened. But not necessarily your intent. He was going to be run out of town, but I think it's more because our fans are stupid. And he knew football had rough times ahead no matter what because of NIL. And the fact that so many of our fans hated Leach just shows the general intellect.Cohen bolted because he knew he was about to be run out of town. He luckily fell up.
Cohen also knew football was about to blowup because the fans were disenchanted with Leach and he knew whenever that change would happen, it was going to be tough sledding because the roster would have to be completely overhauled. Nobody knew the change would be that quick tho, and my guess is he did know of Leach’s health issues before he left
Leach was the perfect type of guy for us for this new era of NIL transfer portal. Props to John Cohen for understanding the need to be different from everyone else in football here, and making that hire. And that’s what it will take here in the future to have a fighting chance, to upset some people, winning records, bowl games ect. We have to be different or we won’t ever do Jack squat again.Cohen also knew football was about to blowup because the fans were disenchanted with Leach and he knew whenever that change would happen, it was going to be tough sledding because the roster would have to be completely overhauled.
I’m not arguing that point with you. Tend to agree. However, don’t pretend like all was well with the fans liking where football was when Leach was here. We should have appreciated him more, for lots of reasonsLeach was the perfect type of guy for us for this new era of NIL transfer portal. Most of our fans and big money influencers are dumb when it comes to football matters. Leach was also a victim of Mullen’s success. Again, his system and ways of doing most everything was different and unorthodox from everyone else. And I think most people weren’t used to that and didn’t understand it. But the proof was in the end results. Most didn’t understand what we were about to be up against with the new NIL transfer implementations of college football. His unorthodoxy and niche system was ideal for us going forward in that new landscape. But instead we’ve appeased the dumb masses by making dumb hires that seemed safe and normal, because they do the same things everyone else is doing. Nothing is different or unique about them. I think Leach had us rolling into a good place when he died.I’m not arguing that point with you. Tend to agree. Man your baseball takes are braindead (and probably just trolling) but you can't be more correct about football. Most of our fans and big money influencers are dumb when it comes to football matters. I have never seen anything **** the bed as bad as gameday and fan experience did under John Cohen. So game day operations and general fan experience were trending up in your opinion with him at AD?

Meh, he hired a first time head coach and apparently didn't vet his ideas for who he would hire as assistants and what his plan was for making the transition easier. That's pretty incompetent. He may be fine but that was pretty painful for a P4 school to have him learn a lesson the hard way when he coudl have just watched what happened with the last hire when we paired a first time head coach with inexperienced coordinator on the other side of the ball. The whole "he hired his buddy" thing is such a casual take.
Cohen was by FAR the worst AD we have ever had, and that includes LT. I'm not sure we ever recover from him.Outside of Auburn….

His talented roster was only talented in his system, if that. THAT talent was headed downhill fast even before he died. In any other system it was terrible.I agree with all of this as far as the facts of what happened. But not necessarily your intent. The roster overhaul is GREATLY exaggerated. I think it's pretty well proven out that Leach had a pretty talented roster that was since wobbled some by Arnett's genius offensive experiment and complete decimated by Heavy Lebby's brilliance.
Selmon spent his first year and a half on the job cleaning up Cohen’s mess. John Cohen, Rhett Hobart, and Lee Van Horn should never be welcome back on our campusCohen was by FAR the worst AD we have ever had, and that includes LT. I'm not sure we ever recover from him.

That didn't happen at Texas Tech or Washington State. His talented roster was only talented in his system, if that. THAT talent was headed downhill fast even before he died. In any other system it was terrible.
I agree, but the idea that he leveraged his OU connections to make an easy, rather than good hire isn't a casual one.The whole "he hired his buddy" thing is such a casual take.
It happened here exactly like those who did not want Mike Leach said it would. That is FACT.That didn't happen at Texas Tech or Washington State.
It's much easier to go from a passing offense to a running offense. Going from a running offense to a passing offense is hard. But once established, it's more potent, as you can run out of a passing offense as well.
A good defense will stop any one dimensional offense, no matter what the scheme is.Leach is Sherrill 2.0 if he doesn't die. He would have taken us to some very high highs but left us in a bad place when he exited. Anyone saying we wouldn't have been competitive under Leach is willfully ignorant. He only did it at every single stop.
Unfortunately for us, he did die. So the stupid side of our fanbase that preferred we "rUn dA BAwlllL!!!!" and continue our losing tradition has been spared the ignominy of watching us succeed under him and be forced to admit football can be played differently.

They also got their wishes granted when we hired an OC to run the power option with Air Raid personnel, instead of running a hybrid version of the AR.Leach is Sherrill 2.0 if he doesn't die. Zac Selmon says hi. State has biggest NIL budget in baseball. Selmon with the help with Charlie has had huge donations towards the football program. Basketball has back to back great portal classes. That doesn’t get done without fundraising. I haven’t even mentioned facilities that are upcoming. That’s fundraising too. State would be non existent if Cohen was still the AD.Outside of Auburn….
