The idea that Leach would have continued to win completely ignores the lack of defensive talent that we had recruited. Our poor defense the last two years was not due to players leaving in the portal, but poor recruiting by Leach’s staff. Cohen’s two football coaching hires were awful.
Again we have another Miss Cleo who is going to predict the future with Leach rather than accept the factual record which was 9-4 and the fourth best season in school history. We also skip over his entire coaching career that saw him go 11-2 twice and win the national coach of the year twice

I’m going to throw out Jake Mangum hitting 315 and say he can’t play at the major league level because I predict he will hit 150 next year. No basis in reality just trust me bro

I have never seen anything **** the bed as bad as gameday and fan experience did under John Cohen.
You can't give tickets away to State football games, most of time. Even in 2014, tickets were cheap for Arkansas at the end of the year.

Even in 2018 with Mullen coming to town v the 85 bears, still an easy ticket with a few empties.

I remember leaches last game, there may have been 10,000 there. No sarcastericks.

Nope, it was absolutely predicted, and it happened.
He died you dumbass, and everyone involved in the decision making process after that went full tard. Because they all think like you - which again makes us a toxic fanbase that has no sustained success.

I know for sure that if we were closer, we would have the finest spokesmen from the women's softball or soccer for sure.

My wife knows it too.

What happened after he was gone was exactly what many predicted when he was hired. It doesn't matter if he died, got fired, or retired. We were going to take a BIG step back the next year even had still been around. Thinking like yours is EXACTLY what got us into this mess. We did what you wanted. It sure worked out great!

Blah blah. Our fundraising got better because our donors slowly figured out it was either pay or go home. We always figure out things slowly.

And no, football didn’t have to suck as bad as it did last year. But that’s what happens when you make a lazy hire.
Have you ever admitted you were wrong? Like ever?

Pretty sure he would have done better than the two clowns we hired though.

So game day operations and general fan experience were trending up in your opinion with him at AD?

I’m sure the current AD has nothing to do with general increase in fundraising that we have had in the last 2 years.

How good of buddies could Selmon and Lebby be? Their tenure in Oklahoma overlapped for 1 year. And Selmon’s title was Deputy AD for external engagement and advancement. I doubt he was spending much time hanging out with the offensive coordinator.

It just really sounds like you are reaching to have a hard on for Cohen and despising Selmon.

Most likely the football hire sucked, most do.
In hindsight, who could we have realistically hired that would have us turned around already? We are at this ****** point where we need wins to show promise to get better players, but we need better players to get those wins. Still no excuse for losing to Toledo. (Hence the most likely the football hire sucked comment.)
Selmon gets credit for fundraising and O’Connor (which was a f’n grand slam hire).

With respect to the lebby hire, at no point in his rambling, incoherent football coach search was he even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone who cheers for the maroon and white is now dumber for having placed any faith in it. Selmon is awarded no points, and may God have mercy on his soul.

14 of two deep on the 22 defense were mooreheads signees…
10 of the two deep in 23 defense also mooreheads
Those players exhausted there eligibility after the 24 season
Leach and ZA defense was propelled by Slomos recruits.

Had plenty to do with it but the defense was going downhill fast. The offense under Leach never did much against good defenses either. I just don't get his groupies. Y'all are like Talyor Swift fans.

The sentence about Ole Miss is a bald face lie. Typical of you. What I actually said was if he hadn't beat Ole Miss, I wanted him fired, and he probably would have been. He won so I was good with him staying. You can't lose three straight to Ole Miss and survive here.

i don’t care enough to lie. I was on this board the night Leach won the egg bowl and you were miserable , complaining and bashing Leach because he won. unless you’ve erased it it’s still in the archives. It’s amusing you would deny it.

Arnett recruiting and the little piss ant Leach had handling recruiting were train wrecks along with Cohen. Then we brought back Turner who also sucks at recruiting and we kept him....and hire Bell and refused to fire Lebby's buddy who sucks at DC. Now we've hired a couple old guys to help the bad DC. We aren't serious about football at all!

Selmon spent his first year and a half on the job cleaning up Cohen’s mess. John Cohen, Rhett Hobart, and Lee Van Horn should never be welcome back on our campus
I get the Cohen and Van Horn. The Hobart part not as much... until I saw he was back with that group. Man I was hoping he'd get away and get some better experience. Looks like he took the quick route up instead of getting better experience. Unfortunately it seems like he's going to be another Cohen with the path he's on- smartest guy in the room. Hopefully he'll get away and learn however it seems in that field, the worse you are the quicker you fall up. Look at Cohen and B-joke. That guy sucked and was an idiot but keeps moving up. I guess that every big school wants someone that can control at AD.

I very admittedly don't know as much about Selmon hiring Lebby as most of you seem to do but I do know this. When I watched the first interview with Arnett, after he was promoted, that I actually paid attention to I knew we had major problems going forward . That guy had about a much business being an SEC HC as a Jr. High PE teacher. I know things were in a complete turmoil at the time but good grief we made the biggest dumbarse in the department the head football coach. I know Selmon has the title of AD but the powers-that-be that made that RIDICULOUS hire are still in place and that is what worries me.

He was just too green. I wouldn't say he could never develop into a good head coach, but remember, he was young when we hired him as first DC job, which was OK because Leach was older and could handle it. And Leach did think a lot of him and I believe had Leach not died and stayed a while longer, Arnett would have been in a better position.

The toxic nature of our program went to his head too. Had so many in his ear telling him to change the offense. He got cocky too because the defense was pretty good while he was here.

At minimum, Keenum should have made it clear to him that at least for 2023, he needed to keep the entire offensive staff intact and essentially function as the defensive coordinator. We had an upperclass laden team that could handle a lot of gameday on their own. Then in 2024, you can begin to remake the team how you want it.

Any D1 position coach or coordinator who has to ask Brad Peterson what call to make -repeatedly-during a game is not smart enough to be a Head Coach.

What causes this level of anti-intelligence? I was one of the biggest Arnett haters here in early 2023. I knew it was over in game 1 and confirmed vs Arizona (a win mind you). @85Bears was right there too. But we did have a competent defense during Leach’s tenure.

It’s pretty obvious he fell victim to the Cannizzaro syndrome. It really sucks for him that Leach died. He needed another 5-6-7 years under a real coach to learn.

Yeah. That Arizona game was a win. And I felt great about us after the 1st quarter. But by the end I knew we were in trouble. We were lucky the Arizona coach didn’t know who his best QB was.
