One of the many things the coach does that just isn't the right way to play the game. You don't hit and run with runners at 1st and 2nd and 0 outs. It's just the wrong play. Maybe he will learn. It's bad baseball and dumbass managing. Take it from Wally.<div>

Its been my position on here that we need to stop with the hit/running and bunting gimmicks every inning and just let the game play out because we 17 up most of the time we try these

is that he was bitching about the other manager calling a hit and run with two men on and no one out, and it working.

What was surprising to me was Backman didn't know that the batter is supposed to hit the ball on the ground when you are executing a hit and run- not a line drive.

But then again, he is an alcoholic and he was managing the Columbus Peanuts for a reason.

Pressure applied to the defense through the short game and putting guys in motion is winning baseball BUT if you do it at the wrong times it's bad, bad baseball and gives away outs. George Horton and the rest of those California guys all play that style of baseball and it's beautiful when done right. State doesn't do it right. Cohen does a great job running a program and getting guys to play hard but has a lot to learn on how to manage a game.

Ask your uncle about Backman's reputation when it comes to managing a game. He is one of the best and well respected when it comes to the game. Off the field, you are right, he has his faults.

that respect Wally Backman to be honest with you unless it's a drinking game.

And again- it sounds like he was pissed off that the other manager called something and it worked. Yeah- you "could" hit a line drive and hit into a triple play- but again, when you hit and run, the batter is trying to hit the ball on the ground. You would think that Backman would know that- and I'm sure he does but if he said that, it would make his point moot. Like many on this board- he was bitching to be bitching.

That doesn't make him knowledgable, that makes him bitter and an *******. And quite honestly, he sounded pretty stupid in that video.

You notice the other player said nothing one way or the other to him.

Just because something worked does not mean it was the right play. You also don't do it with your best hitters and take the bat out of their hands. He put it on with Porter and Frazier.

You are wrong about the respect Backman gets. We were in the Southern League at the same time and if you asked anybody in that league who the best manager was and they would tell you Backman. If you had those same guys come watch Cohen during a game they would tell you how many little things he does wrong and I'm not even talking about strategy. Being out of the dugout and in the hitters ears on the way up to the plate. What the hell is that? Also you are the manager, you make the pitching change. I won't even get into the first base coach and the show over there.
