he is factoring in losing a few of these kids to the draft. Truth be told, I have no clue about baseball recruiting either.

I'd say we've signed too many when we've signed more players than the NCAA allows you to carry on your roster. There's going to be a LOT of attrition in our baseball program over the next year.

Being fans of a team formerly coached by Ron Polk, we have never been exposed to baseball recruiting. It will be exciting to learn about it.

you question and doubt a proven winner's recruiting tactics, but you blindly follow and give the benefit of the doubt to a coach who's never been more than an NFL coordinator?

to speak intelligently but at what point, do we sign too many?

is take a page from Paul Manieri and make some cuts after this year. He's going to find out who fits his system and who doesn't. I think the fact that he has signed several JUCO signees kind of points toward this. He is also hoping that we can still be competitive with Jrs and Srs rather than have a team that is "young" every four years. At the same time, I don't think that he is signing so many JUCO guys that it is mortgaging our future like JWS did with football.

Also, there is a chance that we may lose a recruit or two to MLB. We have to be able to recoup. Way back when Polk would recruit good players, we would lose someone like say Kirk Presley to MLB, but we would never have someone waiting in the wings that was signed so that we could lessen the blow. As you know, what Polk basically started doing was sign guys that he knew were coming to college even if it meant putting together a crappy class. The only time we would be fortunate to get someone like Ed Easley would be if they promised Polk that they were coming to school, no matter what.

I'll say this as well- under Polk II we would sign WAY fewer players typically than a lot of schools. I think South Carolina would typically sign 20 or so a year. Last year I believe we only signed about seven players during the early period. So, what Cohen is doing is not uncommon. I don't know how the scholarships are divided out, but I'm sure Cohen has a handle on that. Let's just hope he doesn't leave us in shambles like he did with UK (sarcasm).

New rules only allow 35 roster spots and no more than 29 players can get scholarship money. Next year it drops to 27. Schollies are limited to 11.7 per year, and can be split among several players, although not as configured in the past. Each player who obtains a partial scholarship must have at least 25 percent of a scholarship.

Since Cohen is going to start dominating the world in recruiting next year (I'll play one of Bruiser's merry friends for discussion's sake), which one of the players below would Bianco have lost out on to Cohen?

And where can I look at a list of your commitments?

since that will be the most obvious battleground between the 2 programs. I don't look for big battles, except for a few in-state guys.

That's kind of my point. We haven't relied on MS that much lately. Renfroe is our lone commitment for this class.

In 2007, I think we signed 3 MS HS prospects and 1 MS juco.

Below is the only list of prospects I could find at the moment.

Baseball Prospects for the Fall

David Renfroe
- RHP/INF @Batesville HS (Batesville, MS) 6'3"/190 lbs. Throws Right and Hits Right. Rated #101 prospect in 2009 class by Perfect Game. David is the top prospect in the state of MS. He is a super high level pitching prospect that has been a star on the summer circuit. He throws 88-90 with a power slider. He also is an accomplished hitter and will be a two-way player here at Ole Miss. The Rebs will fight the draft on David but hope his strong ties to Ole Miss will be enough to get him to campus. His father Laddie was a former Ole Miss Rebel and played in the Big Leagues with the Cubs.

** David has been committed to Ole Miss for a year now.

Alex Yarbrough - SS @Allen HS (Dallas, TX) 6'1"/175 lbs. Throws Right and Hits Switch. Rated #154 Prospect in 2009 class by Perfect Game. Alex is a smooth fielding SS with a very good bat. He made only 3 errors at SS this season. He played his summer baseball with the Dallas Mustangs. The Mustangs are a very high level summer programm that travels all over the country in the summer. This summer Alex hit .455 with a bunch of doubles. He is a good runner, 6.85 sixty time. He has a strong arm and again is good in the field. Alex is a young Senior to be, just turning 16 this summer. He has tremendous upside and will grow into an even better prospect over the course of the next year.

|** Alex committed to Ole Miss over Baylor, TCU, and Marshall

Jordan Cooper - LHP @Farragut HS (Knoxville, TN) 6'2" 185 lbs. Throws Left. Jordan was on campus a this summer and received an offer. He is a very talented LHP that throws his FB 87-90 with a good CB and excellent CH. Farragut is the best HS in Tennessee for baseball and they won the state championship this past year. Jordan was 15-1 for his HS team.

**Jordan committed to Ole Miss over Kentucky and was offered by several more SEC programs including LSU, Alabama, Tennessee, Vandy, Georgia, and South Carolina. Considered by insiders as perhaps the top pitching prospect to committ to Ole Miss in the last four classes!

Zach Lowery - OF @Kennesaw Mountain HS (Atlanta, GA) 6'3"/200 lbs. Throws Right and hits Right. Zach is rated #121 prospect in 2009 class by Perfect Game. Zach is a very talented athlete for his size. He has a nice speed/power combo to his game. He best tool is his bat, and he hits for a lot of power. In the OF he is a corner OF that runs a little and throws very well. Zach has offers from Tennessee, Kennesaw State, Georgia and has visited others. He was on campus in June and received an offer from Ole Miss.

Dane Phillips - C @Nacogdosches Central HS (Nacogdoches, TX) 6'2"/190 lbs. Throws Right and Hits Left. Rated #66 Prospect in 2009 class by Perfect Game. Dane is the younger brother of Rebel to be David Phillips. Dane is one of the best HS catchers in the country. He has very good catching and throwing skills. He is a tremendous athlete. One of Dane's best tools is his power bat from the Left side of the plate. He is the catcher that Ole Miss wants to sign and they will only sign one catcher in the upcoming class.

Dane is a great student 4.0 GPA and 29 ACT. He is being recruited by Stanford, Vandy, Rice and others but has said that Ole Miss is his #1 choice right now.

Chad James - LHP @Yukon HS (Yukon, OK) 6'3"/195 lbs. Throws Left. Chad is rated #84 prospect in 2009 class by Perfect Game. Chad is top level prospect that is a weekend type arm. He could end up being another Pomeranz type arm. He throws his FB 88-91 with a great CB and CH. He is being recruited by Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, LSU, Arkansas among others. He likes Ole Miss but has never been on a visit. Trying to line that up for early September.

Slade Heathcott - LHP/OF @Texarkana HS (Texarkana, TX) 6'1"/195 lbs. Throws Left and Hits Left. Slade is rated # 13 prospect in 2009 class by Perfect Game. Slade is a top level two-way player. He is excellent on both sides of the ball. As a pitcher he throw 88-91 with what could be the best breaking ball in the 2009 class. As a hitter he has power and speed. Ran a 6.7 sixty. He is a guy that is being recruited by everyone in the country. Ole Miss' to him is that he goes to the same HS that Scott Bittle went to and has heard nothing but good things about the Rebs.

you mean winning in the regular season and losing terribly in any and all post season tournaments, then I agree.

Unlike you and Croom, I actually hope Cohen does great and we win many national championships. I am a little confused about how he is going to have spots for all these players he is signing, but I guess we will see. I guess its best to sign 50 people and get rid of the bottom 20 than to only sign the bottom 20 like Polk was doing.

call people idiot on this board you better damn well be the smartest person alive. You never present an argument against anyone. You just call them an idiot. For someone with as many posts as you have I would think you could come come up with something a little more creative. Thanks for embellishing us with your wealth of knowledge and insults. Idiot.

Approximately 2 weeks ago, you were one of Croom's biggest supporters. What's changed since then?
