He goes to my old high school. I like to keep up with my high school on how they are doing, and this kid is really good. Obviously, since he is ranked as a 5 star, but Pelham plays against the best competition in the state of Alabama in what is considered one of the toughest sports regions in the southeast. Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Mountain Brook, Oak Mountain, Thompson, Pelham, Homewood, and some others are in that region. For those of you from Alabama you know what I'm talking about. This region puts out many Div 1 players in every sport every year. This should be a really good signing for us.

coaches that are actually recruiting 2-3 years ahead. This guy looks pretty good- there aren't many guys that are the top starter on any school as a So. I expect him to improve as he gets older, to.

there's a kid that was the #1 at gulfport last year as a soph. he'll be their ace for 2 more years, and fared well against wes rea and others. i don't recall the name, though.

Wasn't impressed at all with either team. Of course, the game was played over two days (rain and lightning suspended the game on Friday and they resumed on Saturday in the rain) so that may have had something to do with it. Still, even in good weather a good 6A, 5A or 4A team from Mississippi would destroy either of those teams.

Myles Gentry? Tim Dowdy is the coach at Gulfport, I believe. Excellent baseball coach. Met him at New Hope, and then he became the HC at Pearl, and then Ridgeland, and now he's at Gulfport. He was very highly thought of at New Hope.

Dowdy's back in the Magnolia State? Last time I heard from him, he was in San Diego lovin the sun and Padres. His wife was a highly sought after pediatric nurse and got a great gig out there. Glad to hear he's back coaching baseball. He's a Bulldog grad. Played some intramurals with him and officiated alot of intramurals with him.

Oak Mountain is always in flux. They have some really good teams some years that underachieve, and other years where they out perform expectations. Thats where D J Looney played football. But that whole area has plenty of people that go to Div 1. I was at Pelham when Hoover was doing two a days, so our whole area tried to step it up a notch when we played them. Definitely a very competitive region.

I agree with you! My son doesn't play football but he is a soph at Pelham. I may very well know you.
DJ, Mark M, and Bo are all from this area. In fact, Mark lives next door to my parents in Starkville.
